Because it's not. You're reading something into his comments which wasn't there. He was saying that beating two great opponents in itself is not sufficient to get you into the Hall Of Fame, he wasn't in any way belittling those two great wins (neither jokingly nor seriously), he was only saying that the rest of Hughes's resume is so weak that he shouldn't be in the HOF purely due to two wins. It's a stupid p-o-v IMO, but it does appear to be his genuine opinion.
I think Matt Hughes is a douche, I also think he wins most of his fight by cutting a lot of weight and sitting on opponents. Still.... look at his record, may not have fought the best opposition but he's one enough fights to be an ATG there or there about.
but he isnt always laying and praying all of his fights with bj penn were awesome and same with matt vs gsp dont you think those have to make a mention? and plus matt hughes cuts weight but not as much as thiago alves.
In the majority of his fights he lies on people.... he is close enough to being an ATG, and when he retires I may think of him fonder.... but I still think he is captaindouchenstien.
Only 1 of his title matches went the distance, including GSP and BJ Penn. So for a for a guy with 35 finishes out of 45 wins, that's the most vicious 'laying on people' Ive seen since I had that ****ed up dream that Roseanne Barr was going cowgirl on Verne Troyer. Ewwwwwww Hughes is definitely an ATG, absolutely no doubt in my mind. The only question is how does he stack up against other ATG's. He was 'The Man' for a good 5 years, beat the best that was put in front of him during that period. For a Wrestler developed a high level submissions game unsurpassed by any wrestler since and had killer g'n'p. His stand up is lack lustre, but as a submission wrestler didnt need to strike did he?
