    100% yes

The dude was taking hard punches the entire night, completely bruised face, body battered like crazy, eyes almost shut

FFS he took 295 punches this fight in 10 rounds, Canelo landing 58% of his power punches.

He has a DAUGHTER to go back to. He's a single dad as well. The dude will probably **** blood tonight, his face looked fractured as well. Jesus..

Tony Weeks has an obligation to protect him and he did.

    100% yes.

Eh I'm not that upset but Angulo should have been allowed a bit more time..

But again why the hell has no one taught Angulo proper head movement ?:patsch

He could have continued... And hell, he could have went the distance... But he would have been taking the same ass whooping all the way to the final bet... Things were not getting better for him

The timing was just ugly... He should've waited for him to take a combination at least, not just one shot in the middle of the round... But he just hurried the inevitable

    I really can't decide.

On one hand that was getting a little hard to watch because over the last few months I've become an Angulo supporter and was rooting for him. He was getting fvcked up, plain and simple. Canelo didn't gas, and Angulo really wasn't going to win.

At the same time, Canelo would be in box mode for the last few rounds. He wouldn't hit Angulo with as many serious shots, and there's the slim chance of an Angulo KO by some miracle.

I'll say this: I agree with 'A' stoppage, but not 'THAT' stoppage, around that point in the fight.

Even though I can see why the stoppage looked like it came at the wrong time it's different when you are standing so close to the action watching a fighters face get re-arranged, Tony Weeks clearly had his reasons to stop it at that moment.

yes, angulos eyes were swelling shut and he would have been badly hurt had the fight continued. he needed a ko to win and he would not be able to do it with his eyes closed.

his corner should have stopped it anyway but the referee has no business intervening unless he is incapable of defending; why would the referee know better than the fighter team ?

Either stop it early or let is go to a conclusion.
I would have preferred a stoppage 5 rounds earlier or else give Angulo every chance to the very end. Let him fight to a conclusion.
As it was he took a loss AND a horrible beating too. Worst of both worlds.

I haven't seen the fight yet (will watch it tonight when I get home from work), but the news article I read said that the ref talked to Angulo's corner prior to that round and warned them the fight would be stopped due to Angulo taking so much punishment. The corner argued to let them have another round to turn things around.

I think that puts a little bit more light on why the ref stopped it at that particular time. It was a buildup of damage and Angulo wasn't doing anything that showed he was going to turn it around.

If you don't agree with the stoppage then you haven't got a ****ing clue what you you were looking at.

Angulo was just going to take more and more punches. Hunter lost respect for me saying it shouldn't have been stopped.

Angulo looked ****ing awful from the get go, Hunter should feel ashamed about the performance of his fighter.

Obviously Canelo was having his way with Angulo, but ANgulo is the type that takes punishment in every fight he's in because he doesn't have any head movement.

It was a judgement call by the ref, and I guess i'm ok with it since Angulo was getting nailed cleanly, and a lot of the shots that were rocking his head backwards were coming from hooks and uppercuts.

But the actual stoppage itself was highly questionable since Canelo only threw/landed a single shot on Angulo. Granted, it was a beautiful uppercut that caused Angulo's head to thrust backwards, but it was still only one shot and Angulo looked like he still had his wits about him.

I think the stoppage would've been more tolerable if Weeks did it if Canelo put together a 3 or 4 punch combination and landed the majority of the shots in the combo. I think it was going to happen eventually at some point either that round or the next. So Weeks essentially just put Perro out of his misery a bit earlier.
