    Is this resume or ability?

Winky Wright would have toyed with Oscar, should have been crowned middleweight champion of the world when he was robbed against Jermain Taylor, and even a fat Winky Wright gave Hopkins fits.

H2H Wright is probably the best fighter of his era.

    It's a combination of both.

I agree Winky would've trashed Oscar, but Oscar was at his best at 135-140 IMO, and Winky was a natural 154lbs fighter.

If Winky had got the decisions he deserved vs Vargas and Taylor, I think everyone would rate him higher than they do.

I think he is a superb and underrated fighter, I am a fan of his, but just don't think he has the depth to his resume that those in the higher tiers do.

all of tier 2 aswell as jmm, calzaghe and wlad deserve tier 1 so i disagre with this system

*unless a HUGE emphasis is based on resume in which wlad and calzaghe would suffer (unfairly)

How do you split the tiers?

It's a good job you didn't see the thread just before you commented my split then was even worse!

Btw ya was right about jones and hoya, I was tripping!

What's your biggest issue with my split? I think lewis and wlad should be side by sided. Think zoo and norris should be side by side.

Winky could be much higher based on vargas and taylor if you believe he won them fights. I haven't scored them myself so aint really sure to be honest.

What makes you think Lennox Lewis is not tier 1? Also, wherever you put Pacquiao, you've gotta put Marquez because they had 2 close fights where Marquez won the majority of rounds.

 I can't think of anything more fair than basing the system primarily on resume.

Then Ken Norton has to be placed in the same ATG tier as Muhammad Ali - :patsch

Then Jose Luis Castillo has to be placed in the same ATG tier as Floyd Mayweather Jr - :patsch

Then Jermain Taylor has to be placed in the same ATG tier as Bernard Hopkins - :patsch

Then Montell Griffin has to be placed in the same ATG tier as James Toney - :patsch

Then Frankie Randall has to be placed in the same ATG tier as Julio Cesar Chavez - :patsch

Then... :dead Congratulations on the dumbest post in the thread.

(and I assume that in your weird and wonderful world of ******ation that:

    - Junior Jones must rank HIGHER than Marco Antonio Barrera

    - Ricardo Mayorga must rank HIGHER than Vernon Forrest

    - Vernon Forrest must rank HIGHER than Shane Mosley)

    ...

Disgraceful post. You ought to be thoroughly ashamed of yourself. :deal

please explain why Hopkins is tier one and Lewis isnt.

I'm a fan of both fighters, but here are some reasons:

    - Going by the official cards, Hopkins went undefeated from 1993 to 2005, his prime was not punctuated by sloppy KO losses like Lewis's was

    - Going by my own cards, Hopkins has lost 1 fight in his entire career, and that was to a peak RJJ

    - Effectively, Lewis retired at the same point where Hopkins 'lost' to Taylor, ie when he was older and realized his skills were becoming blunted by age. But whereas Lewis retired when he reached that point, Hopkins went on to win titles in another weight class (twice actually), and make history by becoming the oldest fighter to win a world title ever

    - I rank Hopkins 5th OAT at mw, after Greb, Monzon, Hagler and SRR. I do not rank Lewis as highly as 5th OAT at hw, because I have Ali, Louis, Langford, Holmes and Johnson ahead of him, at least, maybe Wills too. Potentially more as I don't have a fixed hw list

    - Considering their respective abilities and skillsets all-round, I believe 1996-2002 Hopkins was a superior fighter to the best version of Lewis

    - I think Hopkins's best wins (Trinidad, Tarver, Pavlik, Pascal II) are slightly better than Lewis's best wins (Golota, Holyfield II, Klitschko, Tua), all things considered, though LL's res may have more depth

    - Hopkins has superior longevity

This is all I can think of now, but at least you can see my reasoning even if you don't agree with it. I really like both Lewis and Hopkins, but view Hopkins as the greater fighter.

Great work here Popkins, not really too much to disagree with. I'm not sure if the list was meant to be comprehensive, but I'd include Carbajal, Mark Johnson and Cotto in the bottom tier at least.

P.s Terry Norris won his first title in the 80's I believe.
