:good I've been thinking about writing that one myself. It would probably be impossibly large though. It might have to be several volumes.
If nobody writes a good biography of Barbados Joe Walcott in the next ten years I will consider doing one myself.
Yeah i know what you mean pal, some people on here just cant handle an opposing opinion .. Wereas i enjoy all opinions on any topic on boxing .. These guys are morons, dont let em bother you Magoo ..
Yes but only of my favorite fighters and with my own spin on things otherwise no one's going to want to read it
i'd like to see one on him as well. i was excited when the joe gans book came out and would like one on walcott as well
Yes, I do. I'm a soon-to-graduate English major (w/ a minor in Government & Political Affairs) at Millersville University and in the time I'm taking off in between undergraduate and graduate I plan to research boxing and stay involved with the sport of boxing as much as I can. I have a few vague book ideas, but I'm not really willing to tell anybody until I flesh the ideas out a little bit. Lets say I've been writing on boxing related subjects both fiction and non-fiction. I like doing the research because it's one of the pillars of my work at college. I like to find very deep evidence. Anyways, I'd rather not go on a tangent.
I have been messing around with a couple of books now - one about the generally recognized champions in all weight divisions of the English bareknuckle era c.1720-1870 and one about bareknuckle fights that occured in or around the county borders of my home county Berkshire in England from 1787-1868. They are nearing completion, when they are all I have got to do is get a publisher interested in them, difficult probably as it seems to be deemed a specialist subject, although you come on a site like this and there always seems plenty of questions about these old timers. Anyway if anyone is interested you can find my website on bareknuckleprizefighting.com then just click on 18th & 19th Century Prize Fighting and place your question or view on the Comments page.
Totally agree. Beyond Glory is a brilliant book. I had not even heard of it until i discovered a copy in the 2nd hand shop. As the dustjacket was missing, and it was tatty i presumd it was an old book and it sat on my shelf for over a year before i read it. Was shocked to discover it was only written a few years ago, and what a cracking read.
****! Was just about to write that. I might have to, any idea where I can get **** loads of sources from:good
it may be a specialist subject, but publish it anyway. I find that so many of the 'sources' we grew up on were poorly researched based on previous books, and stories retold and retold lose a lot with the new version.
