The numbers for the Thurman fight and in the UK those David Haye mismatches show how much the public still enjoy boxing, like myself they're probably of the opinion that they don't want to pay to watch it,I'd be Devo'd if I paid and it was over in the first round?

population of the uk in the 80`s was about 55 million

big fights got audiences of 17 million or roughly 1 out of every 3 people in the uk watched the fight live .

i dont have any numbers for american fights of this era / they used to be shown on delay in the uk on grandstand/sportsnight / or itv world of sport.

can only remember leanord v hearns and hearns v hagler as PPV evnts in the uk and that was £10 at gants hill odeon.

from 1 in 3 the uk has gone down to 1 in 65 for ppv fights . in america it is about 1 in 500 on average .

    as the old saying goes
out of sight = out of mind

Events. The only Mayweather/Pacquiao PPV I purchased in the last 6 years was Mayweather-Canelo because it was the only card where I felt I'd get my money's worth. All the others featured awful to mediocre cards and underwhelming main events, including the overdue abomination that was MayPac.

It has to be a special kind of night for me to pay for PPV, there are other ways to get it live and free but if its a special night i take no chances, get the beer and popcorn in and watch it all in HD on a big telly.

It does grind my gears though that some Boxers see to feel there is more importance to their PPV viewing figures than world titles. If they got minimum wage for their fights normally id understand but these guys are amongst the elite on the whole planet and getting paid a hell of alot of money to fight PPV or not. I just know if it was me my whole career and all my thoughts would be about wanting to be the best, face the best and beat the best because i want to be seen and known as the best, not the richest.

I think all these ppv's have made boxing a niche sport. In the old days, "closed circuit" were the ppv's and were only reserved for the biggest fights that had interest that crossed over to the general public. 95% of the ppv's that we see now would have been either on premium or regular tv in the past. Casual boxing fans were exposed to more good fights which maintained more interest in the sport. Nowadays, promoters put just about anything on ppv because they believe that someone will buy it. As a fan, I too want to support the sport but I have come to the conclusion that the best way to do it is not purchase bs ppv's.

Nah.....free market principles give me the option to choose whether or not to support a product by forking over my hard earned dollars.

And I choose not to pay exorbitant amounts of money for an inferior product. Getting a PPV is like getting a payday loan, you are voluntarily being ripped off :nono

But hey to each his own, free market baby
