There has been a lot of talk about Johnson having or not having handcuffs on during some of his fights. If you believe he did, which fights do you believe this occurred in?
I believe he carried some fighters but probably because he chose to, not for direct financial reasons,as long as he was winning comfortably he seldom went for the ko. He could have taken out Ferguson a ton of times in their series,Kaufman and Ross and he toyed with Munroe.I think its pretty obvious he carried Ketchel for a few rounds ,Flynn too..That was his style.Langford agreed to carry fighters because he was such a murderous hitter he wouldn't have got the White boys in the ring a lot of the time. Johnson was content to make them look foolish.
I am sure as a black man in that era he was told on occasion to "lay off". More than likely prior to becoming champion. As champion he did what he pleased.
