Do you believe that Mayweather's legs have gone? just wanted to throw this out there to see just how many people subscribe to this, cause it seems since Roach made the assertion, that more people are inclined to believe it, only I dont know how much validity there is in it, anyway, here is my take on the matter...........

I personally dont think Floyd has fought more stationary lately because his foot-speed has deteriorated, I believe its down the opponent. Against Marquez he knew Marquez wasn't going to chase after him, so he decided to meet Marquez in the middle of the ring, when he got there he decided to utilize his reach by pecking away at him outside, and Marquez's counter punching opportunities came few and far between cause he couldn't draw Floyd into mid range, Floyd refused to give up his advantage, his reach? when you add in the speed disparity, extra size of Mayweather, there was no need to use his legs.

Against Mosley it could of been for a number of reasons, maybe he wanted to look as stellar as Manny has been doing, maybe it was personal between he and Shane, maybe he just saw an old man who was ready to be taken advantage of?

I'd also like to add, that Hopkins was 36 when he consistently move for almost 12 rounds against Tito, although I take the point if you wanna make the assertion that you think Manny would be able to apply more pressure, that Hopkins naturally had better stamina than Floyd, therefore at that age, his stamina would of deteriorated less.

    Thoughts?

I think it has declined, he should have moved more vs mosley in my opinion especially in the beginning. But we cant know for sure we need another fight, if the opponent is able to give him a little trouble and he doesnt move at all we will know his legs are gone, he clinched vs mosley which was smart.
But all this inactivity at his age cant be to good for his speed I think so he might very welll be having legs that are fading.

  3. I believe his legs are gone , and as the subject will come up , without his legs i still think Mayweather will beat the **** outa manny

    No, I don't think so.

I think if you put 130lb Mayweather's mind into Mayweather's body of today, he would fight pretty similarly.

I think Floyd just matured as a fighter.

Not the same as '07-before but not nowadays RJJ bad either. He's not prime anymore but still capable of beating pretty much anyone put in front of him from 154-147(I favor Martinez & Pacquiao over him though). I agree that Floyd doesn't move around as much as he used and maybe because he didn't need to but I feel he couldn't help it. With Mosley he was less mobile and picked him apart while standing in front of him for the most part. I don't put much on the Marquez performance as he was out of the ring for quite sometime. I think people still say he's prime because he's still undefeated but the guy doesn't have the speed he used to I don't know why people don't acknowledge that. His reflexes may be slightly diminished too but he fights once a year now(or did as he may never fight again) so it's hard to give a deep analysis of his current condition. He is so gifted but it's ashame that he feels he should only fight once a year as he's a boxer, not the superbowl.

No, he fought a pressure fight against Mosley. That's what his daddy and Roger told him to do. They probably watched the Winky - Mosley fights . Floyd has def slowed down a little though. All that extra muscle + age will do that.

no, I'd say they're a little slower but they're still good and still the best footwork in the game

The factors of inactivity and aging will get to Floyd before any opponent does I'm sure. His personal problems already seem to control his life.

It's pretty obvious to me that his legs arent what they used to be. And how could they be, with his inactivity and current age? Anyone claiming eitherwise is really just deluded. He'll continue to use his standup style more and more, if he continues boxing that is.

There clearly not the same but we cant say there 'gone' until we see another fight (unlikely). He has changed his style when moving up, whether this is due to the opponents he is facing or his legs being is still to be seen.

Naturally, his legs aren't going to be what they use to be.

But they are not "gone". His footwork and the speed of it, was perfectly fine when he needed to use it against Mosley. He wasn't moving as much as he normally does, but that's because he chose not to, not because he couldn't.

His legs are all there, and they're still the best in the business when working them defensively.

He hasn't used his legs in a while, but that doesn't mean that he can't.

The standards of footwork and foot speed differ from a 130 pounder to a 147 pounder.

    Yeah, I agree with you.

I would say even though he hardly got hit against JMM, that the fight probably showed that his reflexes might of deteriorated slightly, albeit not dramatically. That loopy right that Marquez landed looked like the kind of punch you could'nt of seen Mayweather getting hit with before.
