Do you blame fighters for avoiding certain matchups?

I don't blame them but I don't like it either.

 

If there's one person you can't blame for avoiding certain matchups, it's Shane Mosley

If he had taken a Floyd Mayweather approach to matchmaking, he would still be undefeated too

I blame Williams for calling out old ass Mosley. He called out Mosley after the Cotto fight. Williams called out a loser! Mosley is nearly 38 and has nothing to prove. He's already fought high risk low reward fighters before and he doesn't need to continue that at the tail end of his career. Why is Mosley the only one that fights guys like Williams?

And it usually the people like PW causing the fights not to happen. They see themselves much bigger than they are. So they expect more money than they are worth. (Haye)
As a challenger you should take it.
Less you just won a belt and the other guy says your nothing and only wants to give you 30%. Beyond that you should take it. But usually THEY are the ones to scarred to do so. It is easier to find sue-do notable fighters to fight for so so money and retain your mystic (PW in his last 2 fights).

 

I'll blame the fighter but more the promoter.

As in Mosley said he would go down to 140 to fight Pac but he still went through with Cotto at 145. That had to be Arum's doing in wanting to keep it all in Top Rank. Pacquaio would have had a huge advantage, at his current weight class. So in that case I wold blame the promoter more than Pac, although Pac could have forced it if he really wanted it.

I think another problem is people will blame certain people for avoiding a fight but not everyone. As in people will blame Mayweather for not fighting Margarito but no one says anything when Mosley/ Cotto won't fight Williams.

For whatever reason in the last 1-2 years Mayweather has avoided Mosley/ Cotto/ Marg but Mosley and Cotto also avoided chances to fight him in the past.

 

Im more of a Mosley fan then Williams but the truth about Williams is that he wanted to fight them all, he didnt just call out one.

Fighters cant fight everyone, for whatever reason that is a hard thing for many fans to understand, but to have this many top fighters not fighting is a shame...when you look at the combination of the fight fighters being talked about here Williams, cotto, floyd and Mosley only one fight has been made, while I truely believe that Floyd and Cotto will meet up should they both win there next fight the fights I still want to see is Williams vs Cotto, Floyd vs Shane, those fights need to happen first because Shane wont be long in boxing and Williams wont be able to make the weight much longer.

Some times, but some times its just a fight that shouldnt happen for awhile. I think the perfect example of that was Jones vs Hopkins, a fight in which the purse between the two was less then 3 million, if the fight had been delayed 5 or 6 years it would have been worth 5 or 6 times that much, around 02 it would have been one if not the biggest fight in boxing.

 

I don't blame Pacquiao for not fighting the slick style of boxing. It would expose him per se, but there's a reason. Him and Arum saw what Guzman did to Soto. a bad loss would deflate the most hyped up fight for the ages. Pac vs Mayweather.

 

It all depends on many variables. Money, options, et. It's usually not as simple as most fans think it is. Boxing is a business, and fighters usually have a short shelf life. They need to make as much money as reasonably possible in a fairly short time span. It's not always possible to insure your family's future, and please the fans at the same time.

 

i understand, but how would you know what its worth in the future? for all we know, one might get in an accident and the opportunity had passed. I dont think it makes any difference anyway, and the "what if's" will never end.

 

Williams has himself to blame for some of these fights not happening. Just last year he lost to Quintana, plus he prices himself out. It gets tiring when a fighter just calls everyone out, especially when he's one of the latest ones to lose a fight.
