I do amateur boxing and a lot of people ask me "why would you want to hurt somebody" "dont you feel horrible hitting somebody" "you know you can seriously get injured, its inhumane". Yet they are big fans of football, and in football your objective as a defensive player is to tackle the person with the ball, they can get hurt. but their response to me is that football players dont hurt each other intentially, its just a result of the tackle. I dont know how to defend myself against these people! do you think boxing is inhumane?

    Just the obvious mismatches.
When a fight is competitive there is nothing like it.

It's a bit primitive in terms of the part of the human psyche it appeals to, yeah. Not that anyone should give a ****.

It's more human than being pacifistic...think about it...

Like the poster above mentioned, mismatches are what's inhumane.. Boxing itself isn't a mindless savage sport like some people make out to be.. It's the sweet science and it's an art form.

Ill tell u what's inhumane.. Darchinyan VS Burgos was ****in criminal and it shouldnt have been made in the first place. BUrgos wasn't just old but he was a midget compared to Vic who's no giant himself..

Mismatches like that are inhumane, not boxing..

As long as the two people agree before hand and actually want to be there, no-one forces you to step in the ring and you can throw in the towel if you have had enough

There's nothing inhumane about trying to hurt another person, especially in a regulated environment against a consenting opponent who is trying to do the same to you. Its a sport ffs. Its called competitiveness and its one of the most human characteristics there is.

UFC and MMA is inhumane.. Ground and pounding on a helpless man from the front and the back is classless and that's inhumane. I see no honor in that. Often times in UFC, one fighter would be totally helpless on the floor and the other guy is on top of him just pounding on him.. Now that's inhumane.

Same deal really. Can't argue that something like Calzaghe/Lacy is any more humane, with one dude just taking a beating and his people leaving him to take it because they've got a lot of money invested in him.

Cetain sports have an element of risk and injury and it is up to the participant as an individual to decide whether they want to take part.

    I am a mountaineer.

I climb mountains and routes that I consider to be low risks.

Now one of every six mountaineers who atempts to climb Everest dies in the atempt. It is literaly like playing Russian roulete.

If you want to try to climb Anupurna you have a 40% chance of dieing in the atempt!

The diference between me and these guys is that I am a person who also happens to be a mountaineer while they are mountaineers who also happen to be people.

Boxing is a sport with an element of injury and risk of more serious injury like many others. If we take away these sports we loose an important part of the human condition.

    Boxing inhumane?

Tell that to B-Hop, who would probably be banged up in Philly getting bum-raped day-in-day-out if it weren't for boxing.

Tell that to Pacquiao, who would probably still be selling donuts on the streets of General San if it weren't for boxing.

Tell that to Mayorga, whose family probably would have starved to death in some ramshackle hut in Nicaragua if it weren't for boxing.

Tell them to stop being pussies. Nobody forces us to do it, and nobody forced our opponent to do it. We're in their for the sport, not to kill someone.
