do you consider boxing inhumane?

Do you think people who think boxing is inhumane come to boxing websites????????

 

First off, people who are football fans and rag on boxing for that are ****ing hypocrites. I'm also a football fan and whenever someone pulls that card, it just drives me crazy. Not only because of the violent nature of that sport, but because mismatches happen all the ****ing time, too. Football players get more concussions than fighters over the length of their careers, which is something alot of people don't know.

The way I see it, people who choose to box have the right to, and it's not something to feel guilty about- it wouldn't be a global sport if it wasn't ingrained in at least some of us to like doing it. In a perfect world fighters would all have educations to fall back on, but it's not, and not everyone does- so they should be free to earn a living or pursue their hobby as much as the next guy. As long as the next guy isn't a baby ******.

Not at all. that's why there's rules and a ref. It's a tough sport, but it ain't violence for the sake of violence.

 

The usual defense against this accusation is " they have made the free choice to box".

The central point here is "FREE": to what point are the boxers really free to choose to participate or not ?

Amateur boxing is certainly not inhumane in my eyes. It is a contest , a test of will. No economics are involved yet, just the desire to achieve something .

Pro boxing is entirely a different matter.

It is true the greatest boxers ever came from poor backgrounds.
Some amassed colossal fortunes, others achieved a very high standard of living. This is the good side of boxing.

But then there's the other one. Boxers starting just as poor, training just as hard, but being not good enough.

These will amass a great deal of losses, and absorb many beatings. They will often enter the ring to face champions they know they have no chance against; if so, why are they entering the ring ? For the chance to test oneself ? NOPE.

FOR MONEY.

Because that's all they know to do in life. They accumulate blows to the head, suffer multiple concussions, and end up more or less brain damaged after a 20+ year career.

These poor chaps reach 40 years mostly BROKE; their often severe PROGRESSING brain handicaps will leave them in certain disadvantage vs other 40 year olds for challenging works.

So until pro boxing cleans his practices ( impossible feit really) i tend to agree with the inhumane accusation, as it leaves 90% of it's participants in a financial and health hazard risk state.

It is the wrong question.

The real question is, does it matter?

 

I get in (real life) arguments with tons of people who rag on boxing but love pro football.

My argument:
- The NFL sweeps all their permanently injured & brain-damaged veterans under the rug and revoke their medical privileges.
- Permanently injured & brain-damaged boxers are put in a bright spotlight and other pros often donate their purses to help them out.

Their argument:
Yeah, but boxers hurt people on purpose!

Weak.

 

just tell them its one of the most basic functions we know as humans

 

2 consenting adults in a controlled enviroment how is that inhumane? If either of them was there against his will I could see the case for it being inhumane but that is not the case.

 

First, they are wrong about football. Players do intentionally try and hurt each other. You don't want to be on the bottom of the pile. Biting, kicking, scratching. You know why they pile up like that? So their guys can fight it out at the bottom. Why else would refs have to pull guys off the top of the pile when they are no where near the ball? Really!

As for why YOU do it? That is the way YOU choose to test your self. Over and done.

Some one mentioned concussions. Look up the threads I started and you will find some back ground material about the NFL and concussions. These guys hurl themselves at each other at full speed.

 

As someone who played football, It's not a very clean sport. Then again I don't consider it inhumane. Willing participants. We WANT to do this.

There are injuries in every aspect of life. I could be stocking sneakers at Modells, slip on an invisible banana peel and break my back (SPINAL!). Is working at Modells inhumane?

The only time boxing can be relatively inhumane is if there's an incident like Oliver McCall vs Lennox Lewis II...where one guy is tweakin and cold turkey and they're trying to force him to fight.

 

Evenly matched athletes.. in great condition.. No..

Mismatched , and unsanctioned............ yes...

Boxing as a well regulated sport .. in no way inhumaine..... We all know the risks and no ones arm is being twisted....... If you don't love the game , you shouldn't be in it...

 

No, imo Humans still have that fighterinstict in them, its in the human nature to fight each other aswell as animals fights (well somehow) atleast i dont see anything wrong with two guys fight each other with gloves on! boxing is a very controled sport, there are referees, doctors and a team can stop the fight when they want, ofcourse injures cant be avoided.. but in other sports its far worse! i think some just dont like to see someone beating another guy with his fists, and thats the reason they say its inhumane
