Do you consider Canelo to be a Mexican Style fighter?

I get the impression that's what many think.

Even Erik Morales used his underrated skills quite often.

 

Ofc he is.

I would say more, I consider him a Julio César Chávez style of fighter. It is so obvious to me that Canelo grew up wanting to be like Chávez. I never heard him saying that, but I dont care, it seems obvious to me. There are a lot of things in Canelo's boxing that reminds of Chávez. Not exactly the same, but similar. It's impossible to me to watch canelo fighting and not to think aboud Chávez. That waist, that head movement, those traps, that way of staying in the short distance, that bodywork....

Sure, Chávez is more offensive and Canelo more of a counter puncher, but anyway... I dont care. Sometimes I would swear that Canelo is trying to mimic Chávez like Eubank Jr tried ot mimic RJJ, that's how much he reminds me of Chávez.

And if Chávez is not a mexican style fighter, then we can close this forum because there is nothing left to do here.

 

Yeah I can see Chavez/Canelo comparison except I think Canelo is better defensively and Chavez had better output and stamina.

 

Very annoying term to describe a wide variety of styles used by Mexican fighters. It’s actually an insult to me.

 

Canelo is a plodding bum

who pretended he wasn't hurt on the ropes and that Bivol wasn't battering him

 

He’s not the classic come forward in a straight line throwing punches type of Mexican fighter that are seen routinely on fight casts. He’s far more skilled than that.

 

Tyson Fury is more mexican than canelo
