Do you consider Deontay Wilder letting his rematch clause expire a duck?

Nah, other fighters are carrying on without crowds, it’s the foreseeable future, could be years before this Covid and crowds situation levels out. It’s a blatant duck, fury’s willing, Joshua’s fighting pulev , lomas facing Lopez etc chisora Usyk...He genuinely might as well retire if he’s using the crowd/ gate money as an excuse

Surely, it's a duck. If Tyson knocks him out again in the 3rd fight, then Wilder won't have any idea what he's gonna do next.

Yep, I couldn't figure it out either, unless Wilder has injury issues which really disadvantage him enough to step away. My guess is he's still going to maintain his WBC ranking. Perhaps he anticipates Fury will need to drop the WBC belt in order to fight the second fight with Joshua. Wilder the fights Povetkin/Whyte for the vacant belt mid-year.

The whole money angle and it not making enough for me isn't a good enough excuse. Every fighter fighting now is taking a pay cut most likely as there is no live gate. Chisora, Povetkin no doubt took less, Joyce and Dubois eventually decided to take less and go ahead, Joshua is fighting so are Pulev and AJ. Fury/Wilder 3 seems to be the exception at heavyweight.

Fury is making big money regardless because of his deal with ESPN which guarantees him at least $100 mill for 5 fights so $20 mill per fight. Wilder in contrast has no such guarantees so he'd be the one getting the short end of it but he's the guy without the title now so he should be the one more desperate to avenge the loss and win back his belt. But instead he's quibbling over the money.

Fact is they now know they are not dealing with an out of shape Fury or a Fury that they can just rob on the cards, they're facing 100% full Fury and a guy that can and will KO Wilder.

I don't think it's an official duck, but I think Wilder is probably relieved on some level. He knows there's a 90% chance he'd have been slaughtered again and he'd probably retire after another beating.

I personally don't think a 3rd fight would benefit anyone, at least not yet.

He should go fight some other fighters. I don't want wilder gone.

It's hard to get to the bottom of it with the PR from both sides. It's possible Wilder is like Whyte, so stupid that he always has delusional confidence. Whyte just claimed he'd beat Povetkin 9/10 times, and he probably believes he'd beat a prime Povetkin the majority of times too.
It wouldn't surprise me if Wilder thinks he'd beat Foory 10/10 times without the suit.

But Fury is smart to not wait until early next year for a fight that could easily be delayed again due to the Covid BS. He could end up being out for a very long time tied up with that rematch. And it's clear this Wilder fight is so dependent on the arena revenue that it's the worst fight to wait for in this crowdless period.

not really. He put on the gloves and takes his chances so I don't think he ducked him, I think maybe he doesn't know for sure if it will happen, and his mind might still be unsure what happened so he is in limbo probably. It would be best if he fought someone else and built up his confidence and maybe developed body punches to set up the head shots. Set them up.. That power he has can stop anyone. He does have that. Too bad Mark Breland was let go, but at the same time if he thinks Mark will stop another fight when he doesn't want it stopped then letting go of Mark was a good idea. I think Mark did a great job, but he has to be on the same page as his corner.

He may be really injured. I tend to give a fighter the benefit of the doubt.

Finkel and Wilder only starting making noise when Fury and Warren began looking for a fight in December.

Its obvious whats going on here , Wilder wants Fury to be inactive so he balloons up to 350lbs and comes into the 3rd fight all weak and soft like he was in the first one.

Taking a tune-up fight in December has clearly sent Team Wilder into panic mode. That is why they are talking about legally binding contracts all of a sudden.
Up until now Wilder and Finkel have made no efforts at all to try and make the 3rd fight. .

If it can't be done at the monument fair enough. But trying to block Fury from having a tune-up in the meantime is absolute scummy behaviour :shakehead:

17 million reasons is why this fight is not happening

Lets get real here without a full live gate this fight as never going to happen again, it will in 2021.

Crowds won't be back next year.
