Do you consider Hopkins to be legit champion at LHW?

Quote - he doesn't wear a legit belt

NBT, there are no legit belts. WBC, WBA, IBF, all those are just corrupt bodies passing out worthless trinkets.

Roy was clearly the top LHVY a few years ago. The Ring awarded him their belt based on their rules, his dominance, and his unification of the trinkets. Hopkins is the linear progression from Jones.

You not liking Hopkins doesn't make him illegitimate.

That is the basic difference between linear title and ring title.
Linear title should be based on linearity, Jones didn't have this title
bcs he did not beat DM.

Ring belt should be based on the current status of this division.
Jones was Ring champion bcs he was simply the best and probably better than DM.

Tarver beating Jones might be the best during that short time but
since most of the people do not give respect for Hopkins to be
the BEST LHW I don't see any reason he should keep the Ring belt.

Ring belt is not working in the way as linear, by beating the "man"
who wasn't realy the "man do not mean you are the "man".

I have no problem with him keep winning.
I think the problem is that if he is claiming to be LHW champion then he should stop
fighting guys a la Winky/Calzaghe and start fighting legitimate LHW contenders.
Lets him fight even Jones ....
Dawson, Erdei, Woods, Briggs are great oponents for someone who is claiming to be Ring champion.

No, he is not the champ at the weight class. Nor is he is a top 5 P4P at the moment for that matter.

The worst part is if he fought a fresh, younger LHW, he'd lose and people would not rank that younger fighter in the P4P rankings, even though they rank Hopkins top 5 at the moment and scorn anyone who says otherwise. But if he lost to the young fighter, they'd act like they were aware all along to this contradiction.

If Calzaghe comes out with a win over Kessler, then fighting Calzaghe would be a massive jump for any LHW if they beat him, he's a top P4P who's only one weight class down and would be undefeated.

    WRIGHT -

154 pounder, unproven record at 160 and had no business any higher than 160.

SMW's are much more acceptable for a LHW than a LMW, I am afraid.

    Congratulations, son.

    Finally a serious, well-written post!

And nobody got called a mother****er, a ******, a homo, a ***** or any of that other stuff.

I don't agree with all of it but you're mostly right.

BTW, I predicted Bernard would beat Tarver, but I didn't think the whipping would be so one-sided.

BHop is the linear champ at the moment. There are a few at SMW and LHW who who would probably beat him at this point, but until they do, he's the man.

He is the champ whether anyone likes it or not. Maybe beating a bunch of no names and remaining undefeated impresses some of you more.

I would say that Hopkins WAS the 175 champ.

Roy Jones no doubt was the man at 175. Tarver became the man and after loosing and winning against Johnson was still the man. Hopkins beat him so we can consider Hops to be the champion at that time.

I dont think fighting Winky at 170 counts as a defense at 175.

Basically, I would say that Hopkins has vacated the championship belt. Its been a year and he only fought once at 170 since and may either never fight again or wait a whole year again before fighting.

Although the above is my opinion, you could also argue that the belt/championship was vacated by Tarver for not fighting enough as well and that by that way of thinking that Hops never was a legit champ at 175.
