I do not believe any sane boxer would take punishment he did not have to. Mayweather should not drop to their level.

    Oh wait! Wrong forum!

When picking a style did you ever have in mind long term damage?

And if we have anyone online who boxes pro, can you tell me your policy for sparring?

    Cheers.

I have once after seeing what happens to these legends. But after awhile, I figured out that I do better when I don't care about getting hit, then focusing on not trying to get hit

I think that a boxer does what he does when he gets hit. Injury is just motivation to be good defensively.

Just wonder if it goes through the minds of many. We never talk about this stuff, but me coming from a bio POV, I think about it all the time.

  5. Answer is yes i suppose. You wouldn't come straight at a hard hitter if you're not that big.

    Yes, very good.

    You know what I mean.

Ali is a great example. He took punches in the gym. Looked bad.

I don't think one should choose boxing as a sport or profession if he/she is concerned about long-term brain injury above all else. Sure, it's natural to think about it when you see the Quarry brothers and such but, as with any sport, if you are constantly concerned about injury, you won't do very well. Bottom line: Be aware of the risks, take the necessary precautions (head gear, head movement) but don't fight scared. Boxing is a sport where the goal is to land as many blows on one's opponent as possible...choose another sport if this isn't your cup of tea.

Honestly that would be the last thing. Usually style is about gifts from nature and personality type. So the style that the person can use most effectively is the style that will protect him from brain injury.

The problem is more times than not that the fighter just stays too long or doesn't realize and accept his limitations.

I guess I consider facial damage nut not really brain damage.. for example, I stopped blocking with my face in favour of head movement because I didn't wanna end up ugly(er)

Part of the reason why i made a switch to mma is because boxers take too much punishment to the head, i have seen a lot of old trainers who are a bit punch drunk. MMA you dont take as many punches to the head, there are obviously other risks with mma but the risk of brain damage made me change sports.

    learn a good defence.
