I remember when this thing first kicked off everyone and their mamas were wetting their panties of how great this thing was going to be. The Euro/U.S rivalry was getting intense but now we have the final championship this weekend between an American and a Euro but there is hardly any threads about it.

This tournament was suppose to revoultionize the sport but it clearly hasnt.

Do you consider the Super 6 to be a success?

How hasnt it been a success? Without this tournament all the Euro's would have stayed in Germany and ducked all the Americans, and claimed they were the best just like they do in every other division.

We've seen some good fights, and the best fighting the best. Needs to be done again.

Other than taking to damn long it has been ok. Many people have lost interest I think.

On short term, YES. On the long run - NO.

You have fighters constantly dropping out of the tourny plus you take 6 of the top fighters in the division and isolate them for like 3-4 years away from the rest of the division.

    Yes...

There were a few hiccups of course... JT's brain, Dirrell being a b*tch, Kessler's eye, the clear home advantage issue, it all taking up too much time and Bute not being invited. But we got to see fights we never would have if the tourney hadn't been there.

Just look at other divisions, with "champions" even ducking their mandatories and getting away with it :wall

Now it all has to end with a non controversial fight, and the winner not ducking Bute and it would still end up as the greatest succes in boxing from the last decade at least.

The best in the division fought the best. Yes a great success and would love to see more tournaments like this.

  9. As far as the time it took and the injuries/subs, Showtime and the promoters did the best they could. We still got to see some great matchups you wouldn't normally see.

    Froch - Kessler
    Dirrell - Abraham
    Abraham - Taylor
    Ward - Kessler
and now we get Froch - Ward.

I think it will result in making it clear who the man at 168 is... and then we get to wait and see if Bute mans up to fight the winner.

    = Success

In some ways, yes. I think on the whole, yes. We did get to see the best fight the best, minus the inclusion of the other talent of the division Bute. That being said when you get the best fighting the best, you have a success in the eyes of the boxing fans.

You make a good point about it isolating the participants from the rest of the division though. That means the tournament isn't really able to cope with changing dynamic of the division outside of the tournament, guys like Stieglitz, Sartison, Oosthuizen don't get the same light shone upon them, or a chance to take on the big names of the division who are in the tournament.

    Win: Great matches
Loss: 168 will be dry as hell at the end of this tourney; There are only 3 S6-ers and Bute worth mentioning; the market stock of rest of the division sunk as deepest as it possibly could. The rest are bums, cans, taxi drivers and old ***s.
The interest in 168 will be regained at this level once again somewhere after 2015.

I thought it was a success for multiple reasons:

    1. Produced some great fights. My fav was Froch vs. Kessler, a FOTY candidate.

    2. Great exposure to skill and versatility of guys I hadn't seen much of, like Froch & Ward.

    3. Exposed hype jobs, punks, vulnerable, unworthy and aged: Abraham, Dirrell, Taylor, Green and Johnson... respectively.

    4. Should produce a unified champion in the near future if Bute fights S6 Winner and Kessler fights Stieglitz, then winners face off... which I think will inevitably happen.

Only complaint, it took WAY too long.

    Erm, it’s difficult to say....

    Pros:
It pitted six very good SMWs – including a couple of good prospects – against each other in a very well marketed and ambitious competition. Its biggest success will be if it encourages other promoters, fighters and weight divisions to do the same thing.

    Cons:
The gruelling format, and a bit of bad luck, forced three of the six combatants out of the competition after just two rounds. That’s 50% of your so-called ‘best SMWs in the world’ gone home . Some very important matchups were suddenly vanished, forcing us to endure an overrated and useless Green, an old weight-drained Johnson, and an unpleasant Bika to just make up numbers. The end result was an easier route to the final (for Andre Ward at least), and the overall prize being cheapened by some margin. This final that we’re going to see on Saturday, still won’t answer all of the questions that we, two years ago, were hoping it would have. Guys like Bute and Dirrell still have a lot to say. Maybe even Kessler, too.

    Sounds harsh, I know.

I think the tournament was a success and it played out naturally for the most part. It took longer than expected, and I think Arthur Abraham tainted it by knocking dirrell senseless while he was down, but other than that it was a good tournament and the best are standing at the end. i'd still like to see dirrell-ward, froch-kessler 2 and maybe dirrell-froch 2
