Floyd Patterson was younger. Tyson won the WBC title but Trevor Berbick wasn't considered the best champion out there. Tyson really proved he was the champ when he beat Tony Tucker, a dead ringer for Muhammad Ali who was ducked by Michael Spinks and George Foreman, among others.:bbb

  2. the great difference is tyson did beat a bucket of garbage like berbick, ali did beat sonny liston, foreman destroyed joe frazier

  3. foreman was old and he knew that tucker would run during al the fight, foreman wanted money easy, simple,he wanted the money for his church, so he did return to the boxing because he knew that tyson had the perfect style for him, tyson was the only who avoided foreman. because styles make fights and foreman would ko any version of tyson, simple.(even cus damato knew it, the style of tyson or any short puncher was a suicide against foreman)

Sure, but Patterson didn't have to beat a heavyweight at all to win the heavyweight crown. I don't like the idea of attempting to throw out records because you don't like the opponent. Berbick was the legitimate WBC champion (the same title held by Patterson) who won the vacant title per WBC's rules, and Tyson legitimately beat the legitimate WBC champion to become the new legitimate WBC champion - a lineage traced directly to Patterson. That's really all that needs to be said. Anything that goes beyond that logic is simply a matter of personal bias, which is meaningless when it comes to records.

I don't think he's ignorant at all. I get his point of view, I just don't think it's an objective enough measure to determine whether or not something should be recognized as a record. But if he personally feels that Patterson is the youngest, then I respect his opinion. He just can't say that "no, no way Tyson was the youngest, that's wrong and anybody who says otherwise doesn't know boxing", which is more or less what his position is.

Anyway, guess the thread's dead now. Bye all!

tyson was still younger when he got the undisputed title though:good

but spins never lost his belt in the ring and tyson beat him when he was older than patterson

    therein lies the debate
