Do you consider Vitali a quitter for quitting against the feather-fisted Chris Byrd?

Or get completely outclassed and KTFO, but I wouldn't want to shatter your David Tua dreams. :)

    And one more thing,

It's kind of hard to run around a ring for 9 minutes like a fairy (ex. ODLH) and get the win.

Even if Chris was a light puncher, If your shoulder is ****ed up and if someone even moves it the wrong way, it's going to hurt like hell and might damage it to a point of no return.

he was a quitter in that 1 fight, but now he is an outstanding heavyweight. it all worked out for him, regardless of what ppl think of the byrd fight.

byrd tried to live off that win, saying his pressure was too much for Vitali. byrd of course was twice pulverised by the lesser klitschko, wlad.

I would have answered "yes" before 2003 - but I feel Vitali redeemed himself in his lion hearted effort against Lennox Lewis. Give me a heavyweight fight of the year and I'll forgive you every time.

Depends on how severe the injury was of course. Wasn't his shoulder dislocated or something? If that was the case (let me know if I'm wrong) it would be quite a tough time to fight with one arm (which arm was it?) and another arm that hurts like hell. Plus, had he continued, the extra damage in those 9 minutes could've been that severe that he could never fight again.
I don't like Vitaly. But he's a grown man and a doctor, so I assume he knew what he was doing. If he quit just like that, well... than he's a damn *****.

PS.: I hope he get's ko'd in his next fight against whoever that might be.

Uhh, there is a difference between quitting in the middle of a fight and quitting in the sense of ending your professional boxing career.

Torn rotar cuff is a serious injury.Had he not pulled out and the injury had got worse it could have ended his career. He was clearly wining the fight and looked in no danger of getting stopped by Bird.I think they pulled him out as a precaution. He is not a quitter,if he were he would have pulled out against Lewis as soon as the blood started flowing from his eye.The descion they made in the Byrd fight was the right one.

it's very annoying for any boxer to read a thread like this.

but if you ask to ask this question then you also have to ask if he's a blood and guts warrior from the lewis fight.

it's like saying jones is chinny because of tarver2 - people focus on the negative too much on forums i think.

Could have been a horrible injury. And EXTREMELY PAINFUL. He was hiding the hurt to some degree too. Could have ended his career, he was probably feeling sharp sharp stinging pain that would come and go quickly. Ive taken several bad injuries over the years but rotator cuff the worst, I would wake up screaming at night in such pain, I was bed ridden for 2 weeks at least. I remember I couldnt even drive a car!!!!!! Vitali is tuff but nobody is that tough, too agonizing, I'm telling you.

Well then. The rest of you really shouldn't be skeptical about this, because now we're getting somewhere:

All that's needed are 3" lifts, 30 pounds of lead weight and a corner man willing to pop his shoulder out between each round! Easy peasy. Then we'll see how a Real Man (tm; patent pending) would handle the situation! :thumbsup We'll all be eating a whole lot of crow, I tell you. :nono

I, for one, will eat my serving gladly! :respect
