A Lot of posters seem to get variables and constants confused

    var⋅i⋅a⋅ble

–adjective 1. not changing or varying; uniform; regular; invariable: All conditions during the three experiments were constant. 2. continuing without pause or letup; unceasing: constant noise. 3. regularly recurrent; continual; persistent: He found it impossible to work with constant interruption.

A variable is something that you can't always account for because its completely random and unplanned for and you cant plan for it.... the examples i notice the most are most people discussing Floyd Mayweathers hands.. yes floyd has had a history of having bad hands but thats not something you can use going into a fight as a trainer to help construct a gamplan to defeat that fighter....

A constant is something that you can always account for because its garunteed to happen 10 out of 10 times and you can use it to your advantage to defeat a fighter... an example of this to oppose the floyd mayweather example is carlos baldomir's speed... or lack thereof.. there is nothing over night that can make baldomir faster and baldomir has a track record of being slow... so this is something you can use in your game plan and use it to your advantage...

so my question to you is....

when talking about fighters do you include variables into a fighters weakness?

Well using your example of hands, how are we supposed to factor that in to anything?

Floyd Mayweather will win this fight unless there is a 1% chance of his hand breaking in half?

It's a bit pointless. I wouldn't factor in something like that.

you would be surprised ... ive heard the hand excuse many of times.. but its just not something you can account for because theres not a guarantee of it happening

Yeah, but the whole point is its something that can't be accounted for. These things are all odds based. Nobody factors something like that into a prediction unless there is a significant chance. It's never really got to that point with Mayweather, except maybe one fight. Since then its been nothing worth thinking about.

When I think of variables I think more of things that can't be quantified such as heart.

    lol how about cuts?

i mean i think cuts SHOULD NOT be included in weaknesses... but others seem to use them in examples all the time

Cuts I do think about in particularly prone guys. Some guys get cut on a regular basis, its foolish not to think about that.

It could make a difference in picking a fight. I don't exactly downgrade fighters ability based on being prone to cut, they can't exactly help the definition of their face.

I do, it always pays to keep them in mind, you never really know what is going to happen.
