Do you currently have Calzaghe or Buchanan higher in your British ATG list?

I don't think there is much between Calzaghe and Buchanan at all.........I think a case can be made for Calzaghe shading it on wins.

    past prime Eubank/Kessler/Lacy/Hopkins/shot RJJ v Laguna x2 (thought Laguna nicked the 1st fight)/shot Ortiz/Watt/Hernandez.

I really can't see where the big difference between them is.

The operative word in my post was "live"...I don't consider Hopkins, Jones or Ortiz live at the point at which Calzaghe/Buchanan fought them, but Laguna certainly was.

I agree that alongside Stracey beating Napoles, Laguna I & II are right at the top of the pile when it comes to assessing British fighters performances abroad. The first Laguna fight especially where everything, including the blazing sun, seemed to be stacked against Ken.

How on earth can you not consider Hopkins live when nearly 2 years after Calzaghe beat him he is still in nearly everyones top 5 p4p?

Hopkins was live alright. His next performance was amongst his very best.

Especially when you see the colour of him  He looked far to Scottish for that weather.

You will have to ask them that, he isn't in mine. Do you honestly think that Hopkins was anywhere close to being prime when he fought Calzaghe?

Laguna nicked the corner that had the shade and poor Ken had to endure the sun between rounds. They were pouring water over his head followed by suncream...Eddie Thomas alleviated the problem a little after round 6 by borrowing an umbrella from someone out of the crowd

Physically, of course he wasnt in his prime....mentally of course his was. Hopkins isnt a normal case and I hate it when people try and use the 'he was a 43 yr old' argument to try and discredit Joes victory....2 of Hopkins best 3 performances came when Bhop was 41 and 43....so he cant of been too far off his best when Joe beat him

Like I said earlier, I dont think there is anything between Kens and Calzaghes all time rankings, couldnt really argue against either being higher but personally Joe shades it for me.

I don't really rate Thomas tbh. In fact Buchanan's people failed him at everything form weight-making to finances in the end. It's little wonder he struck out on his own, although that cost him too. With proper representation I think he could have got the Duran rematch and the Ishimatsu fight might have turned out differently, also.

You think...I tend to think that it showed that Pavlik is a bit more limited than we thought

I'm a bit of an Eddie Thomas fan....Winstone, Buchanan and Jones are up there as my favourite Brit fighters.

In this day and age I suppose that the Ishimatsu defeat wouldn't have happened as Ken wouldn't have got out of camp with the injured eye...you could blame Thomas, but its a 50/50 call

Pavlik was undefeated, in his prime years and the MW champion of the world. Sure he was limited. Probably made for Bernard and part of the reason he looked so good. But labelling Hopkins as "not live"...far, far to far for me i'm afraid. Hopkins was and is pound for pound top 10.

I did think Pavlik was poor in that fight but I also thought that Hopkins was excellent and I agree that it was one of his best performances!

I don't think so and neither did two judges.
