Obviously we all know how it ended, so my question is, do you have the mindset of ‘That wasn’t him, he wasn’t in his normal mental state and he had been driven to the lowest point of his mental health, in a normal mental state, he would never have done that’, or do you have the mindset of ‘If you’re willing to do what he did under any circumstance, you can’t have ever been a good person to begin with’? What’s your opinion?
I live not to far from Turpins home town and a couple of blokes I worked with in the past both said that in the 60s Randy would go up town at the weekend and start fights with the local nutters . I obviously don't know the details but I think drink had a big part in this .
I knew Pete Price and visited him many times, he was a Club fighter, spared with them all and hung with them for years, he said the same things, though it wasn't stated in a derogatory sense, more just part of the territory, areas they lived in and par for the course... Pete too believed it was Suicide and not Murder as many had speculated over the years, he said "Randolph was done, he'd had enough"... he blew his money, got into debt, was forced to work shitty jobs and sadly got into debt with Solomons. Pete also mentioned the 'heavies' from London showed up a few times regarding such debt and on one occasion gave Randolph a right good going over. Turpin was just a street kid made good, he was not equipped for sound decisions that could have forever changed his life, no difference too millions of Working Poor Hard Hit areas populations, who just think money is for the spending... His family were rough, from a rough environment, seemingly his sister Joan was the worst. the good news is, his families in more recent decades have come up alright and they have much to be proud of. GOD Rest his Soul. Mercy.
He obviously wasn't well at the end of his life,it doesn't make me dislike the man, just feel sorry for the circumstances. Its tragic.
There's no forgiving to that action, yet it makes him a tragic character, from beating p4p great SRR to murdering himself from debts.
