I do, because I believe that there are only probably 10-15 elite level fighters in boxing at any point, while there is another group of A level fighters which give competitive fights to the elites.

For example, a prime Vargas was a perfect example of an A level fighter but not an elite fighter in my system of classification. He gave extreemely competitive fights to elite fighters, but with the exception of his win over Winky he failed to capitalize on his opportunities.

What is your system of classification for fighters?

    I don't know.

This is how I'd grade fighters in their primes:

A fighters= Mayweather, DLH, Trinidad, Hopkins, Pacquiao

    B+/A- fighters= Casamayor, Corrales, Vargas

B-/B fighters= Gatti, Jesus Chavez, Raul Marquez

Elite! Look at his resume! Wins over Barrera and Pac, and the list just starts there.

I do distinguish between A level fighters and elite fighters, as the opening post said

Elite= Roy Jones (prime), Bernard Hopkins (prime) FLoyd Mayweather

A level= Jermain Taylor, Oscar Delahoya, Miguel Cotto

    Its like if you got
    Kobe Bryant
    and then Gilbert Arenas

while Gilbert is a damn good player, hes no Kobe, but then hes better than a Caron Butler, see what im trying to say

    The most obvious example is.....

    Calzaghe - Elite
    Kessler - Grade A

Certainly. There are very few elite athletes in any sport. Boxing is no exception.

It's like this. In the NBA you have all stars (A Level and B+ Level players) then you have All NBA (Elite).

Guys like PBF, Pacquiao, Calzaghe are elite. Juan Diaz, Chad Dawson, Kessler, etc are A Level, though they could break through to Elite level with big wins.

You can't establish someone as elite until they have victories over Grade A opponents. Sorry, Calzaghe doesn't pass that test yet.

I don't think any fighter in the sport is really in a class by himself.
So I think what most people would call Elite, I would call another A level fighter, and anyone not on that level is B level

A Level would be Vernon Forrest to the elite Oscar.
Just that little extra special something

Super Elite = B-Hop in his prime

Elite = B-Hop in his mid to late 30's

    A level = B-Hop now
