why do people have such a hate for boxrec. it's a tool and a website...and like most websites they are self biased.

but even still you'll never know how a fighter fights through boxrec.

No, but I do sometimes make an orthodox ESB comment about a fighter in a debate without knowing whether it truly applies or not to challenge someone in an argument, but always ask him whether he thinks it's true or not...e.g. let's suppose I never saw Froch but read a lot of ESB posts praising his chin. I might say to someone who says: "Kessler will KO Froch easily", "But don't you think that with that iron chin of his, he might make it through 12 rounds? Or don't you think he has an iron chin?:think" Thus, I find we get further in an argument than if I didn't challenge his position at all. Obviously, the downside is the guy might agree simply because he's read a lot of ESB posts praising Froch's chin too, and wouldn't want to be seen as lacking in knowledge...

...this is a problem on ESB - an orthodox opinion about any topic is quickly established and enforced by influential posters and it rarely gets challenged by most people. I accept that I sometimes contribute to magnifying this problem, unwittingly. But I never do it to sound more knowledgeable than I am. Established posters know I don't know much and that I am new to boxing, despite my high post count.

It annoys me though, when e.g. quite a few people who have never seen e.g. Bute fight say he has no chance against Kessler, just because they know that Kessler is widely regarded as much better...that is just silly.

(But we all know that not all posters here are equally highly regarded; it's not easy to become one of the 10-15 whose posts are always read carefully and taken seriously.)
