I agree. 60s Ali would knock Byrd out while embarrassing him. Ridiculous comparison. Ali was 6' 3" tall. He was by no means a short heavyweight, not even by modern standards. The man had amazing skills and speed for a heavyweight. I have yet to see anything like it.

And no, I don't think the Klits would have beat Ali either. I think that pawing jab of theirs along with their rigid style gets them in big trouble. Foot speed would be a big problem for them in my opinion.

 

Hendo there was also no doubt in your mind that Haye was going to have Wlad crawling around with **** **** smeared in his hair. So your Dempsey destroys Wlad "no doubt in your mind" proclamation doesn't really mean a lot. Dempsey gets ass raped by Wlad, just saying.

 

Toney would have been **** stomped by any elite level fighter he faced in this current era, in the previous era he had success against some of the older fighters and was good on his day but ultimately was too inconsistent to have a sustained period of dominance in boxing.

Calzaghe would have beaten him. Hopkins would have beaten him. Even Tarver would have beaten him.

Technique beats technology all day ! What good is it to have all these advancements without proper technique ..Look at Jean Pascal and Andre Berto two of the strongest fighters out right now .


.But look at their boxing ..Would these 2 fighters be too much to handle based on their strength since these guys as I’m certain they have taken every advantage of the current advancements in nutrition etc against an old timer??

The issue with boxing is there are too many short cuts ..And the justification is .well there are advancements ,people know the risks now ..What ends up happening is what we have now ..A sport that’s suffering to be consistent!

 

James Toney is a NATURAL.

There are very few NATURAL fighters in this sport. And what I'm sayin is, his learning was other worldly in a sense, or God given in reality.

That's hard to come by, and with that I'm not afraid of any challenges attitude; if ya'll forgot, watch him against Evander Holyfield.

I mean, this is James Toney. I don't know the guy personally, but I've seen his attitude in the ring...

And I know he had the strength and the courage to fight a former top MMA fighter and Toney proclaimed "legend" of the sport...Toney showin respect to Couture...but still willin to get in the ring at a shape most observers feel is inoperable at levels they anticipate.

So, that bein the case, Toney is a great fighter, in my opinon spoken with true greats of the sport, from Ezzard Charles to Jersey Joe Walcott and beyond. This leaves me to believe that people will someday try to gain knowledge from his skill of the sport even if they can't match his strength and fortitude which is the makings of a true fighter.

This man is a gladiator of the sport, seemingly fearless, and willing to climb from middleweight all the way to heavyweight, and not taking on the visual characteristics that one might expect because it is viewed that James Toney is out of his weightclass if not shot completely.

But his courage is remarkable undue great stres if not from style and attitude, sheer physicality, as he portrayed against a man that had recently knocked down the man who was at the time heavyweight champ is and still currently today.

It's hard not to acknowledge Wladimir Klitschko's dominance, especially in his showing against a physically on top of his game, but mentally not ready for that type of atmosphere in a professional fight, but excellent defensive performance for Wladimir Klitschko, if not cautious, for not only protecting his chin, but landing the harder and cleaner punches against his mentally enervated opponent.

His defensive game in the sport for the past years has been in the top tier of the sport and rarely gets the acclaim it deserves even if there is not a capable opponent at this time.

With that said, on that tangent, Toney is a great fighter has proved he belonged and is not to be underestimated.

A true great.
