Usually when I score a fight ive never seen, and it isnt an obvious robbery (Holyfield/Lewis 1) my scorecard is usually 1 point away from the judges.

for instance with Usyk /Fury 1 I had it 114-114. Two of the judges had it 114-113

but then I see people score it 116-111 or 117-110 or other ridicolous scorecards, and wonder what they are watching

Most people can score a boxing match correctly.

But not everybody. For example, NewChallenger scored Fury-Usyk 114-114, which shows he cannot accurately score a boxing match.

The judge who scored Fury-Usyk 114-113 for Fury (Craig Metcalfe) was obviously dishonest. Even if someone were to give all the fairly close rounds to Fury, 114-113 for Fury or 114-114 are not possible scores.

Usyk clearly won the fight. Anything from 117-110 for Usyk to 114-113 for Usyk (giving ALL the fairly close rounds to Fury) is reasonable. I scored the fight 116-111 for Usyk.

Personally I don't score fights as I'm not a professional judge. I try to get an overall feel for who won a fight, that's all.

I think usually, not always, you can tell.
But then there are those instances where one fighter just walks forward throwing landing nothing and the other fighter landing 1 clean hard shot for every 6 just randomly landing on arms for the aggressor

When rounds are clear, they're obviously easy to score. It's the rounds that aren't clear that then opens up the ambiguity.

Usyk v Fury for example had Fury clearly winning 3 rounds and I would say Usyk clearly winning 6. An argument could be made for who won the other rounds for each fighter. The correct person in this case won the fight but that doesn't always happen when the rounds aren't clear.

Judging your scorecard I find it difficult to give Fury as many rounds as you did but that could be my own bias and personal preferences.

Well the other judge had it 115-112 Usyk which is more in line with what the fans had it.

I think 7-5 or 8-4 for Usyk are acceptable scores 6-6 is a reach and 7-5 for Fury is criminal which is what one judge had it.

It was a competitive fight with a clear winner.

You mean Fury comfortably won about 7 rounds on your scorecard? That's interesting. Fury shouldn't have any problem on Dec 21st then

Sorry but 114-114 is far more ridiculous than 116-111. Care to post how you scored it round by round, so we can see how you ended up with 114-114?

Which is Why I don't score live fights. It's hard to see a winner in a close round. Takes too much concentration and takes away from the fun. Plus, I'm not getting paid for the work involved.

I attended the fight and at the time thought it was a draw in rounds with 1 point usyk ahead due to the knockdown. Everyone was pumped up and excited in anticipation of the judges decisions. It was afterwards that I took the time to review each round and only then did I see a much clearer Usyk win. Something like 116-111 but my math skills suck.

I am no judge either, but I think usually it is very difficult to score a fight correctly from round 1 to round 12, especially when a judge doesn't have a 360° view during the fight.

They also put different weight on certain events in the ring (punches landed, power punches landed, punches thrown, who controls the center, who shows more effort, defence, and so on) and things have evolved over time. I read the book from Teddy Atlas where he explains that Michael Moorer in some round was dropped by Holyfield I think, but he dominated the rest of the round and one of the three judges scored the round as an even 10-10 round, which Atlas assumes was the only correct scoring of the round at that time, but today you would always score it 10-8.

Today nothing astonishes me anymore except when a close fight is misjudged as a clear victory by only one judge. You really start to wonder how these guys became judges.

I agree watching replays can change your mind, it's easy to miss shots. Also most people have had a drink or whatever so close rounds can be difficult to score. As long as the you have right person winning you can be satisfied that you can judge a fight reasonably well, sometimes lol.

8-4 Usyk, or 7-5 + KD if you're being generous to Belly.

And that was one of the worst versions of Usyk we've seen. Slow and sluggish and far more easy to hit than usual which of course is exactly what that flabby shaved chimp was hoping for after shamelessly ducking him for years trying to age him out

Only a corrupt as sin SOB or a rabid Usyk hater would score that a draw, let alone score it for Belly

I love scoring fights and have been doing it for over 40 years. I find it fun and it also helps me concentrate on a fight and have a clearer sense of what's happening.

This said, here's something I've discovered over years of doing this - it's hard to maintain that concentration for 3 minutes at at a clip. And, for those younger than me, let me tell you it gets noticeably harder to do this as you get older!

Perhaps even more importantly, whatever is going on in that ring is filtered through your individual perception -- and therefore boxing scoring is inherently subjective. This is why I absolutely detest the tendency of boxing fans to scream "robbery " when the scores in close fights don't agree with their own. It's the height of narcissistic arrogance.

But the only punches you see are left handed punches.
