do you give Joey Maxim credit for stopping Ray Robinson

At the time of the stoppage, Robinson led by scores of 10-3, 9-3-1 and 7-3-3. The Associated Press had Robinson ahead 9-3-1, and the United Press had him in front 10-2-1. Ray was conceding 15.5lbs.
Given the scorecards, do you think Maxim would have entertained a 2nd fight with Ray in the Autumn?

No one is disputing he lost the fight but to ignore the conditions that led up to him losing it is absurd, imo

I am suggesting that he played the long game, hung tough, didn't quit and proved to be the stronger, better man that night.

    It's undeniable.

I've been in the ORIGINAL, OLD Yankee Stadium when it was over 100F degrees and I wouldn't want to be boxing another guy, although I can recall several fights in the crowd. But they weren't SRR.

This. Credit to fighters that are hardass enough to walk through fire knowing (and sometimes planning) for that late win.

You are pre-supposing Maxim and Kearns wanted a re-match.Do you have proof of that?

Robinson was bed ridden for 2 weeks after the fight ,covered in blisters,6 months after the bout Maxim lost to Moore not much of a window of opportunity for a rematch .Moore got the fight by giving Maxim all the $ and taking on Kearns as his manager.
ps What is this right back at you **** ?

Well if he was deliberately playing the long game he was relying on Robinson collapsing because he couldn't have won a decision! The consensus was that he was out boxed and out manouvered, you are suggesting it was all part of a master plan?

Yeah you deliberately get so far behind on the scorecards you can only win by a stoppage ,and you are known as a non puncher and your opponent as having a top chin.Sounds like a good plan. lol

Maxim had been competing, but losing, to Charles & Moore top fighters in that time frame......and continued to W/L regularly from the SRR win onward, until he retired.

I'm suggesting that he fought at a sustainable pace given the conditions. He outsmarted and outtoughed Ray. I really dislike giving Ray the asterisk victory here. He rolled the dice and crapped out. Maxim was the better MAN that night, in the realest sense of the word.

He didn't outsmart Robinson in the first 12 rounds, he was so far behind he was in danger of being lapped! Robinson made him look like a pedestrian clod!

We know the result, the only bone of contention is what caused it!

Ali got pulped by Foreman before koing him.
Brewster and Ross walked through world war two before triumphing over Wlad.
Rubio got a proper working over by Lemieux before coming back and winning.
Lewis was getting a real pasting from Vitali before hanging in for the TKO.

These are all good to great wins achieved through guts and heart and, yeah, maybe a little luck. So what?

So what if Maxim also lost handily before the win?

He hung in there and outgritted an ATG.

Full kudos from me, and I see no reason to take anything away from him.

In my book, Maxim took Ray into deep waters and let him drown. And that's why it says Maxim RTD 13 Robinson.

Not only do I give him credit but I consider it a great victory.
