Margarito was unranked and nowhere close to it. So that's kind of irrelevant beyond the feel good story of it... On the other hand Sergio and Foreman held belts, one being the lineal #1 MW and the other being an obvious top 10 JMW. He beat both of them decisively.
I give him a lot of credit for taking on the Sergio fight Floyd wouldn't do it and it was a massive step up everyone picked against t him and even though he turned out not to be the same cotto still beat him as a big underdog
Yes. Fighting Martinez and Margarito took a lot of guts (many people thought he would lose both of those fights). Foreman isn't a great win or anything but it's not Cotto's fault if Foreman wasn't 100% plus he would have beat the best version of Foreman anyway
