Mike Tyson is arguably the most polarizing figure in boxing history. Probably one of the most polarizing athletes in history.

He had a very turbulent career and was one of the most unique boxers ever. At 5'10" he was destroying everyone they put in front of him in a round or two via spectacular KO. Even to this day at age 54 he commands attention in the ring and is a big draw.

The fact that Buster Douglas beating him was the greatest upset in sports history shows what people thought of him at the time.

It's either he was completely overrated and was exposed when he fought those who "weren't afraid" or "fought back" .... Or he was an absolute head to head monster.

So where do you rank him? I think most can agree that a Mike Tyson fight was like none other ... He was a highly entertaining boxer. He is probably the second most well known and famous boxer after Muhammad Ali.

I personally put Mike Tyson in the top 10 heavyweight all time for sure. Head to head at his absolute peak I don't see many beating him.

    I have him at #10.

I would favour Tyson h2h over some guys i rank ahead of him. I have Frazier, Marciano and Lewis ranked ahead of Tyson but h2h, a prime Tyson beats all of them.

I have always thought a Tyson-Louis fight is 50-50, either Tyson early or Louis late. Ali is too much for Tyson though Mike would make it competitive for the first 7-8 rounds.

Holmes-Tyson is 50-50. Foreman and Liston likely outslug Tyson.

Holyfield is interesting. Perhaps Holyfield had the skill and toughness to beat a peak Mike. Still Mike was a way better fighter in 1988 compared to 1996. Lets just call it a 50-50 fight

I have Tyson as a favourite vs 3 of my top 10, him at 50-50 vs 3 others (Louis, Holmes, Holy) and him losing to Ali, Foreman and Liston

Outside of my top 10, i don't see many beating him. I don't have Wlad in my top 10 no matter how successful his reign was. Tyson would maul Wlad. Vitali has an outside chance but Tyson probably wins that too.

I would also give a chance to guys like Bowe, peak Douglas, and even Fury vs a peak Iron Mike but Mike probably wins those.

Overall, yes, not many guys can beat him.

I have him top ten. As much as he accomplished I think he could have accomplished more. Wish he would have gotten to face Holy and Lewis earlier in his career and never faced Bowe or Foreman. Those two fights would have been interesting.

I alternate Tyson between 10 and 11 to be honest for this reason...

Mike Tyson faced and beat seven current or former champions in his first 35 fights. Three years.

Show me one other Heavyweight champion who fought against seven current or former champions in their first thirty five fights ( seven champions in three years 85-88)

Yes, he is. Ali, Louis, Holmes, Johnson, Wlad, Lewis, Holy, Frazier and Marciano could all reasonably be ranked above him (not saying they necessarily should, though), but then it gets harder to argue anyone ahead of him imo. So 10 at the lowest.

Many would have Foreman above him, but impressive as his comeback was I mainly look at what a fighter did at his best and there I think Mike edges him.

My top ten literally changes every week.. But round about now I've got him at 10. What could he have done to be rated Higher? If he could have beaten Holyfield perhaps, then he's moved up a few notches. But Holyfield s always his sticking point.

Without a doubt he is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Dynamic with two quick powerful fists, explosive killer instinct and great movement. How he unified the heavyweight division has never been equaled, literally scared the division into handing over their titles in just a couple of years and 4 seperate reigns. A sudden fall from grace, but explosive heavyweight boxers who rely so much on speed have short lifespans anyway, but Tyson's was cut shorter, pity we never got Tyson/Holyfield 90/92 era. He hovers in my 4-12, so sometimes could just hang outside the top 10, but generally I have him top 10. He is also probably top 3 ATG heavyweights for getting heat, which I see as a good thing, people investing so much time to try and debunk a boxers greatness only shows the persons insecurities or bias.

H2h he is def top 10.

legacy wise he should be as well, he went out and collected the 3 individual belts to become undisputed champ. Then he blasted out the lineal champ in 90 seconds and for good measure defeated the previous lineal champ and ATG Holmes in 4 rounds.
Only thing against him is short prime. He did not possess great longevity. I think it’s totally reasonable to have him in a top 10.

    my rankings as follows:

    1. Clay ( both for legacy plus H2H potential)
    2. Lennox (H2H potential plus legacy)
    3. Joe Louis (dominance of era)
    4. Evander (legacy)
    5. Foreman (legacy plus H2H potential)
    6. Holmes (dominance of era)
    7. Jack Johnson (dominance of era)
    8. Tyson (dominance of era plus H2H potential)
    9. Wlad (for dominance of era and H2H potential)

Bottom half of the Top Ten. His list of victims impresses me more than some of the sacrosanct champs.
