it or shut up. It's really annoying when a recognized fighter makes a statement and then half the armchair warriors here say "Oh he's just being nice". That's code for "I'm not going to accept this because i don't like that fighter". Analyze it, discuss it but when you debunk it outright YOU look the fool because YOU haven't been in the ring for 12-15 rounds and are recognized as some of the best there was.

Exactly, it's ridiculous when people suggest that the likes of Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Holmes, Liston and Tyson could beat great modern fighters like Ross Purrity, Chris Byrd, Corrie Sanders and Valuev, who are just as skilled, and far bigger.

    "debate it or shut up"
Wow what an opition we got there.
The idea that you have to have played a sport at the higest level to know anything about it. Is utter Bull Sh_t. Sure I don't know what it's like to go 12 rounds, but Those of us with no to almost no experance still have eyes and are capple of understanding things.

Like certain arm chair fans i feel certain former fighters can have just as many biases that can cloud their viewing of fighters and the sport itself

it happens in all sports and every one is bias

anybody can have a good well formed opinion whether they actually boxed or not

exactly...how many sports writers or commentators have never done what they are covering

sometimes former athletes can make bad analysts because all they do is compare themselves AKA Troy Aikman

The notion that you have to participate in a sport to have an understanding of it is false imo, this is coming from someone who trains aswell. Of course having hands on experience gives some knowledge that an armchair fan won't understand, but there's plenty that armchair fans know more about than HOF boxers.

An incredible high number of boxers don't even pay attention to the sport, my trainer was giving an example of Wladimir Klitschkos jab and the majority of the class had no idea who he even was.

Anybody can be wrong. I'm an American. I live in a country where many caucasians believe the president is an idiot.

What about the HOFs who are punch drunk? Are we listening to them?

And of course Larry Holmes and Lennox will say that the heavyweight division is weak right now, because it is boosting their own resumes by claiming that their division was better so therefor they must be better champions and would have beat the Klitschkos. Just an example.

How about everyone analyzes things and decides for themselves? The pros are wrong many times and often make ridiculous predictions that don't turn out well.

Everyone has their opinions, but I believe you have to follow boxing and have been part of it to know what it takes to box. To know how it feels to get hit to the body or a good stiff jab. Armchair warriors will say, "he only got hit with a jab so why is he hurt". That is why you have moronic commentators who don't know what they are talking about. When I say fan, I mean someone who has watched fights, gone to fights, and even gone to a gym to watch others train. You can learn from that, but some will get curious and train a little and get in the ring. So what if you last two minutes which I have seen in the past. I would not call you a ***** for giving up. It takes a lot to get in the ring in the first place and I respect those who actually have gotten int he ring. HOF fighters know what they are talking about, but like someone else has mentioned, some will belittle a decade to make them look better in the past. SRL is a ATG and HOF and a fanatic of the sport. I would believe and follow what he had to say about boxing. He is not a God and will make a mistake like us.
