Boxing fans/figures are a funny bunch. So many of us moan that there's no Sugar Ray's any more and there will never be another Ali, Marciano etc which is true. I've spoken to a few like this and they are so negative about the future. They have little to no interest in Khan, Froch, Haye and Brit supporting cast and the overseas talents starring Manny, Floyd and the likes. And there are other fans who accept the past and the glories that it brought but love what we have right now. They can't wait for the next appearance of someone like Carl Frampton and are so psyched for what lies ahead this month. Of course you can find the balance but do you long for the past or live for the future?
The boxing isn't a patch on the "old days" but at least these day with streams (legal ones), torrents, YouTube etc you can see pretty whatever fights you want to, old and new. Even less than 10 years that wasn't the case and fights were either a PITA to get hold of or expensive. Or both.
I am optimistic about the future. We can recall the great fights and fighters but the ultimate attraction is watching a fight unfold live before out very eyes.
Sometimes I watch an old fight and think, "*******s had it good back in the day". But the future looks bright, we have good prospects, good fights being made. I'm sure in 20 years the new generation of boxing fans will watch Pac, Marquez, Cotto, Mayweather fights and envy us
i think you tube has provided the sport with a tremendous boost in the last few years and once legal streams from nearly all cards anywhere in the world gets sorted in terms of quality and cost, the sport has a good chance imo:happy i do worry about the fighters tho and entertaining fights. its a fact that the talent pool has gotten way smaller and lots of star fighters dont fight often enough, reducing quality of fights imo and interest in them
most sport's were better back in the day same goes for football , same goes for boxing. there's alot of good boxers coming through right now so there's no need to worry about the future , the time to worry is when there's no exciting match up's to be made.
Boxing has regressed technically and in terms of depth IMO. Some good fighters, but the 'old days' take a nice steaming dump over todays fighters, for the most part.
