How do you feel about Gatti-Ward I? Is it one of the pinnacles of the sport (over the past 25 years, anyway)? Or is it not really your cup of tea?

    I know, I know...weird poll question.

Lol, it was a pretty good fight. Not worthy of some of the hype it gets IMO, but there are also fights I love that others don’t appreciate as much as I do.

I, SHADAPBLAD, take thee, Gatti - Ward I, as my wedded wife, from this day forward, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.

It was what it was: A match between two over the hill guys with a ton of heart that like to fight but can't box much. It was a fun mid 80s ESPN fight.

It was a fun fight, but it makes boxing look like a clown show imo

Very good fight, but at the same time one of the most overrated fights of all time.

THE most overrated trilogy of all time.

Great fight. I loved it. The ninth round is one of the best rounds I’ve ever seen. Didn’t think the second and third were great though.

Having never watched it at the time and only seeing it a few months ago I'd say it is overrated. It was a hell of a fight but I don't see the one of the greatest fights ever credentials. Corrales vs Castillo is far better to me

Til a left hook to the liver do us part.

That shot Gatti took in the ninth ground is plenty close enough to death for me ... and that’s just watching. I reflexively double over every time I see it.

I love it for all the right reasons. There is an honesty about that fight, two hard working tough boxers pouring out their hearts not for millions or the nine thousand people ringside, but because it was just who they were.

No politics, no stupid fake drama in the build up, no slime ball promoters that smelled of taco meat and cheap cologne. A pure boxing match, a pure fight between two above average but not elite boxers with a great back and forth, ebb and flow.

Emmanuel Steward said it best when he said that you dream about fights like that but they hardly ever live up to the hype... Gatti Ward did.

It’s a good entertaining fight between 2 lower tier level fighters, but I wouldn’t call it the best fight, let alone best trilogy. Gatti-Ward 1 gets highly overrated as a fight because of the 9th round.

    I’ll take Barrera-Morales 1, Marquez-Vazquez 1, Corrales-Castillo 1, Holyfield-Bowe 1 over Gatti-Ward 1 any day.

Some guys were born to fight each other and fate brings them together. We got a three-fight series with thes two and they left a large part of who they were in the ring each time.

Fate allowed these two to find each other in a boxing ring, and we were blessed by it.

I think love is the right word.

It's a fight that's all heart, and Ward winning at the tail end of a career as a journeyman and the friendship they formed after really adds to the legend.
