I just spent this weekend going through all my old boxing magazines, mainly from the 80's and 90's.
Wow, talk about a trip down memory lane! Some of those issues I felt like I had read them just yesterday, even the older ones going back 30 years or more.
That is really kinda scary and sad.
But neverthekess, it was really awesome to go back and just read these mags again.
It reminded me how I miss them and how much I miss the expereince of reading a printed article on paper as opposed to on a screen.

Don't get me wrong...kindle is pretty good. Most my book purchases are kindle editions now. But still...I miss the smell of the paper and the mere experience of turning a page.
If I go online it's to check out a result or maybe to read a short (often poorly written) article. I cannot read lengthly articles online personally.
Boxing mags are no longer available here so I haven't collected in many years now.

I have been tempted more than once to do a springclean and throw out these old mags. They're no longer relevant and take up a lot of space.
But then I get into reading them again and it takes me back to a time I cannot ever get back. It reminds me of my youth and how much passion I had for the sport back then and it's just such a great experience to open a window back to previous eras again.
So, the magazines stay, ready to be dusted off in another 5 years or so.

Does anyone else dust off their old mags from time to time? Do you feel like a rickety old fart when you do? Do you miss collecting?
    Who prefers online?

yeah I have a few times when I come across them in garage or loft.

Mine are mainly mid 80's to early 2000.

I still buy BN and BM at the airport when I go away on holiday a few times a year.

And always think they are a good read, I think BM is really good

    Agreed. :good

BN costs nigh-on £4 and it's only 50 odd pages long!

Compare that to any other magazine and you'll see that Boxing is dead, you are getting ripped off in terms of content quantity and that the business model of a Boxing Magazine is now a thing of the past.

I always buying Boxing Monthly, though. That's where the beef is.

Yep I had boxfuls of them. Unfortunately they got left behind when I moved out of my old house. Starting to re-build the collection now off ebay.

I still have a lot of mine but I am missing many from the 70's when I was a kid. They probably disintegrated I read them so much :)

I recently re-purchased the first two Ring Magazines from 1972 that I had when I was ten. It was neat looking through them again.

I do miss buying magazines. Electronic versions are not the same to me.

Could never knowingly throw away an old Boxing News, Boxing Monthly or Ring magazine, even though I stopped buying 'The Ring' when Golden Boy ruined it.

They're fantastic to dig out and reminisce from time to time, especially looking back at BN's amateur section and seeing guys who went on to become professional superstars. The quality of writing in the printed media will always be generally FAR superior to on-line stuff.

I had about six or seven years worth of ring and KO mags in an old chest. But when I moved out my mother eventually threw them away. Yeah I miss them, but they also took up a lot of space.

The internet has destroyed these magazine gems from yester year.I really looked forward with anticipation when the latest Ring magazine was coming out-now when I see them at a newstand they are so far behind in their reporting that I totally ignore them.
My all time favourite was Flash Godon's newsletter-it was an all time classic, never to be seen again, much like it's author.
    Flash-you were the best!:thumbsup

I bought almost all the magazines for years, but, loved "Flash" as well. I actually have an old issue of Flash by my desk at work.
