    Wow.

I went so far as to write a letter to Ring Publisher Steve Farhood in 1993, right after College. He was nice enough to respond. He just said to concentrate on trying to be a good writer.

I think many of us on here probably thought about doing it as a profession. The aggregate knowledge on here seems pretty high. Personally, I have had periods where I became disinterested in boxing. I don't know if I would have been happy dealing with it 24/7.

I am glad there is a forum like this for like minded enthusiasts.

Hey that's cool that Farhood responded. :good

I go through phases where I barely even think about the sport at all and then other times I'm totally into it again. But yeah, maybe being around it 24/7 might have seen me jaded. Who knows?

I still subscribe to The Ring. I've been a subscriber for probably about 10-15 years straight and have been buying boxing mags regularly for over 30.

Every now and then. Brings back a lot of memories. They were $1.75 back then. Remember the New Faces in Ring Magazine, and the ratings, which were pretty good. A whole different era, better than this **** now.

Don't think Eddie Borden's "Boxing and Wrestling" has been mentioned. They came out from '52 to ' 58, until Boxing Illustrated took over. The former contained tremendous articles on the greats from Sullivan through to the 30's. Entitled, "Book Length Features" usually by Stanley Weston, lavishly illustrated with rare photos and drawings. They vividly brought the legends to life.
Police Gazette was also a great magazine containing superb features on old timers, I have around 6 of them that I browse over.
Magazines are great as are the forums, where fans can contact each other in a way unimaginable a few years ago.

I had a few boxes of Magazines hundreds my wife and I rented a duplex 1 room deal with storage in the basement the pipes blew one night and flooded it ruining my collection. I think it was sports illustrated that had Mark Breland on the cover I had that in mint condition.

I used to read an article called the male manifesto by mark frazee??

I miss it. I had hundreds of them in boxes ranging from the early 80's till the late 90's. Unfortunately all were destroyed when the basement at my old house flooded during a hurricane. Never had the heart to rebuild it after that. Recently though came into possession of some old mags from the early 1900's and 1930's. These im keeping sealed in plastic and put up on a shelf in my closet.

Sadly mine have disappeared over the years. I still have a few though. I have the best 80 punches mag, and a fantasy match edition. (Tyson vs Ali, Foreman vs Lewis) and I have a couple with Tyson on the cover, etc. But most have disappeared to god only knows where.

As an aside, I was in San Fran, this summer and we went to the old hippie area of the 60's. Height & Ashbury street and I found a couple of Freaky Freddie magazines. For those of you unfamilar with him, it as a pot smoking cartoon magazine that I use to read in my teens.
