Do you now agree that Usyk is a boxing great? How great is he, and how is he great?

Is Usyk great, how is he great, and how great is he?

  1. He is the GOAT...the greatest to ever do it.

    13.8%
  2. Uber elite PfP...talking Robinson, Greb, Armstrong, Leonard, Ali, Louis...

    44.6%
  3. Not uber elite, but a true pfp great AND great at heavy, just lower down the list

    38.5%
  4. Not uber elite and not a great heavy, but he is a pfp great nonetheless for 4-belts in two division

    1.5%
  5. He's not great.

    1.5%

Not interested in listening to the rose-tinted google wearing boxing nostalgists and paleontologists reminisce about the good old days when boxing was a regional sport. Enough of your whining and baba tears. Usyk is the GOAT. Usyk is the King. Usyk is the King of everything. Deal with it

He's really good. I don't think he's up there with the top but that's a failure of his era not on him. Head to head I got him beating lots of top heavyweights like Foreman and Holmes.

Greatest European fighter of the modern era in my opinion.. Calzaghe, Michalkzewski, Beterbiev, Wladimir... he tops them for me. Both he & Lomachenko do in fact... Brilliant ambassadors of the sweet science both.

Since this thread is for posterity, let it be noted that I believe this is a wind up.

All these posts about GOAT, P4P, ...

    It's all conjecture and fantasy.

Maybe fun to talk about but basically meaningless as there's no way to prove any of it.

    So don't participate.

I mean, as I am OP, you are most welcome to and we would like to hear your opinion. You're a good fellow. But attacking the premise is silly. Everyone is enjoying themselves and no one cares about the objection.

Fair enough. I usually don't participate in these kind of threads.

We've had a lot of them lately though...and I couldn't contain myself any longer. Lol

For the record, I still think John L Sullivan is the GOAT. Prove me wrong. Nobody can as it's all just conjecture.

I said my piece. I got it off my chest. I'll not rain on the thread any more.

I think it needs more time... For us to say he is really great. He is Hall of fame and potential great. Greatness is something fighters get or reach more at the end of a long career. I don't think Andre Ward is never great. Too short a career, and yet the only fighter with a short career in my mind who is great is Sugar Ray Leonard just on opposition. Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler. All different styles and weights but he beat them. It was so impresive, and he changed tactocs and improved to beat each one, beating some like Hearns at this own game. Ward did not come close.

This is all conjecture. There is no way to prove if someone is a GOAT or not, it is opinion. Just say that Usyk is one of the greats, that we can all agree on.

The lack of volume disqualifies him from the top 20. How can I, in good conscience, have him next to guys like Tony Canzoneri or Mickey Walker who fought over a hundred times?

However, things get interesting from here. Quality of opposition and dominance are my most prized criteria because you will see, while there's been plenty of weight-hopping in boxing's long history, routinely spanking top opposition is the stuff of the creme de la creme. Most trip up. Usyk has yet to. And now here we are, undisputed at the premier division, with virtually no controversy.

I'm not sure people telling my guys like Hagler and Monzon are greater sits well anymore.

Look at how fast of hand and foot, accurate, and mobile prime Usyk was and also look at his reflexes and reaction times and compare that version to the Uysk of today and recent years. It's a very noticeable contrast.

Actually watch the video and observe it because he's moving with the speed and nimbleness of a lightweight and he had the reflexes and reaction times of a giant Cossack mongoose.

That's a top quality SHW, a 3 x World Amateur gold medalist no less, he's in against there
