In light of his win over Koki Kameda, do you now consider Wonjongkam one of the ten best flyweights ever? His credentials are top notch.
He really is old school. Been active for 10 years at world level had about 70 odd fights and loves to fight. Also has a 5 fight rival her eyou are J [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPIojd_O0FM[/ame]
When you get below Featherweight, I'm not comfortable enough to throw an opinion on the top tens of all time. But, it was probably worth comeback fighter of the year from Ring, no?
This decade has been far too barren at Flyweight to break the top ten unless you looked a truly exceptional fighter imo, and even then it would be on the lists that favour assumed peak ability\head to head, rather than record that would be most favourable. Wonjongkam never looked near that kind of talent to me and never had the competition to make a strong claim either.that said he was\is a fine fighter, good at almost everything without being outstanding or flashy in any one area.Would have been a good fighter in any era, and this win-despite Kameda being quite mediocre-is epic considering his age. Without thnking too much about it, i'd say if i did a list now i'd have him in the 25-35'ish range.Agree with rock about being the best of this era too.
He's pretty dominant Mante; that type of dominance brings it's own reward in terms of accrediation. You would school me good on this division so I won't bump up against your number, but I offer up my own - one loss in the last 13 years. He's also 18-1-1 in "title" fights, at my count?
I should have said, if you happen to rate his ability higher than i do, a higher ranking is perfectly justifiable. As you say, he's got damn good numbers and coming back like that is a big deal, considering he looked a shot fighter recently...though it says a lot aobut Kameda too. I wouldn't have him any higher than top 20-25 though.Look at Sahaprom, similar career, fought better fighters and imo had more tools, but he's not cracking many Bantam top 15's or even 20's.
If this win somehow kills the comedic value of using Koki Kameda as a catch-call for all thread topics, Pong won't see the light of my top 50 flyweights.
I would have thought he would have a spot in the top20...I actually rate his ability, middle of the pack when it comes to elite fighters at the weight in this regard. But the simple fact is his record is more devoid of his main rivals then probably even Galaxies...not his fault, nor was it really Khaosai's but they arent on his ledger and thats all that matters.
He is lock din the Hall of Fame and there had been only 8 flyweights in the hall of fame so far. So, he is easily in the top 10
There aren't a lot of good fighters on his record. He has his own Bum of the Month Club. I would say no, he's not top ten, but you have to respect his record and the fact that he pulled that lightning out of the bottle to beat Kameda.
