Two dramatic championship wins four years apart with mediocre opposition in between aren't enough to trump consistent domination over top contenders within a division after multiple division championship wins. You're a known Marquez hater so there's no point in arguing too intricately but performing against Pacquiao, Casamayor, Diaz, and Katsidis the way he has has solidified his status in a way that Donaire's resume simply has not. I have nothing against the guy, I'm a fan and really excited to see where he goes next with his combination of skill and talent, but he's not above JMM, or Martinez either for that matter. People need to put things in perspective before letting an impressive KO overwhelm their short memory.
i have donaire @ #4 above jmm (#5)... donaire has just annihilated a #7 p4p fighter while he being n the top 10 p4p himself. donaire also KO'd b-level opposition in his 3 previous fights before montiel. jmm's last 4 wins were against b-level opposition and suffered a very lopsided loss to mayweather.
Yes, I have him at #4 now, behind Pac, Mayweather and Martinez. Frankly, Montiel is a much better win than Marquez's recent wins, and Donaire has been beating guys in much more dominant fashion than Marquez. Still have Marquez at #5 though, and Klitschko drops to #6.
JMM is handpicking guys after losing to Mayweather. He never beat Pacman no matter what he says. And lost to John. Donaire just beat a guy the level that JMM has not beaten in years.
Wasn't Katsidis Marquez's mandatory? And wasn't Diaz in the FOTY with Marquez in their first fight? He handpicked his mandatory and the guy he fought in the FOTY with? What a shitty hand-picker he is!
jmm has already been over-staying for about 2.5 years @135 which is composed of b-level fighters as its champions/top contenders. he should already move up to 140 and take on the likes of khan, bradley, alexander or maidana. victories against two of these guys will certainly earn him a third shot vs. pac.
