Do you really believe that 168 pounders hit harder then 160 pounders?

Nigel Benn hit ridiculously hard. As did G-man. What a fight that was, tragic but great

Good point. Pavlik does not have the same sickening one punch KO power that the other middleweight greats had

Agreed, though he might be around RJJ's power level, he seems to be built a little bigger as well.

Julian Jackson had freakish one punch power, back in the late 80's, early 90's, he's the type of guy you didnt try and go punch for punch with. It's just too bad Jackson's chin was below average, if had a good one, he would be looked at as the Tyson of the middleweight division.

I rate Pavliks power and he can bang but guys like Jackson, Benn, Mcclean and IMO RJJ were on a different level.

Pavlik's punching technique tells me he's a thudding puncher with heavy hands and good finishing skills. There is no real speed or anything dynamic to his punches like a Jackson, he'll never knock out any good fighters with a single shot.

No its true that those at higher weight classes might not hit as hard as those at lower weight classes. But KO'ing someone hinges on other attitubutes:

STAMINA -- need to be there for the round you KO your opponent

SPEED -- awkward/unseen shot does the most damage because you cannot brace against it

Earnie Shavers hit hard. Where's his championship belt?

wow by adding in history you have gone to complete bum why did you not leave it at
"Kelly Pavlik is one of the hardest hitting 160 pounder in the devision"

only adds 3 more words onto what you said and does not wreck your e-rep

Has to say a lot about Pavlik's text book skills and relentless finishing skills to have a 90% KO ratio.:yep

But yes, Pavlik's power is accumulative.

Edit- OOOOPPSS- LOL.. didn't read the thread.

Good straight punching, along with his work-rate and aggression which wears them down. Then, his finishing skills are one of his best assets

The power is overstated really, it's not one punch type, or even close to his most important attribute

Kind of hard to say if he doesn't have it or doesn't use it sometimes. He has this strange way of having someone out and yet they seem to still be standing there stunned and he continues to punish them. I think it was Zurtech? that was a good example of this. He wasn't even on the ropes. Also, even though Kelly is maligned for his defense, he isn't swinging for the fences when he hurts someone and is still very methodical.

Well, he had Miranda on the ropes for a long time, even getting back up after the initial onslaught. Taylor I he stuns him initially, Taylor backs up, Pavlik unleashes a furious onslaught before Cortez is in there like a rash. Not sure why Taylor didn't just take a knee? All points to heavy hands rather than murderous power

His strength is definitely his finishing skills. The key is he doesn't panic, or change his approach in any way. You see a lot of guys wind up with wide shots. He does his fundamentals, only a little more aggressively and quicker

Just a "mere 8 pounds"??? Do you ****ing know what 8 pounds of weight does to a LEAN ATHLETE? When you're talking about athletes that have very low body fat %, 8lbs difference is HUGE....

The massive difference in sizes between weight classes should be enough...Give me a break.:patsch It's not the 8 POUNDS its more the body frames and sizes that are allowed to fight at a weight division 8lbs heavier. Look at Little Hatton who is a very very solid 140lber. Now look at beasts like Margarito and Cintron who hit twice as hard as little Hatton....
