Money and I can't blame them. it's their job. Unless someone in hear can honestly say that they would gladly give up their job for a harder job with lower pay just to make someone else happy they should really STFU or get in the ring themselves.
There's obviously a need to entertain the fans, who bring the money. But at the end of the day it is their job and as any other human being on the planet, you work to make money. In short though, I think the really good ones can walk the line between both.
Usually when you get those fights that the fans want though it's because they are the ones that make the most money for the fighters and the promoters. The fact that the fans want them is what makes them profitable.
I think it depends on the fighter unless your a pro you fight for nothing does that mean you do it for the love of the sport ? In most cases I would say yes. Pro boxers imo would make the higher risk fights for pride the fans and the glory. Boxing is all about the money now it a business and imo boxers should all earn good money. its a hard way to earn your money and your life is on the line. Does this stop the best fights being made I would say yes
Can't really vote properly for this because my opinion is mixed. I think with the fighters money is primary because a lot of the fighters are working class men like me who need to earn a living. No problems there. I think some elite fighters do go on to fight for the fans but more so to build a legacy for themselves. Promoters are different. Money will always be primary as that is the nature of their work. Some promoters, however, will work harder to please the fans than others. Frank Warren is an example of someone who doesn't really care about the fans but is clever at fooling them into thinking they're getting something they're not. For example, I'm convinced Warren would have been happy letting Hatton defend his WBU bauble at the M.E.N. his whole career because he knew their were plenty of mugs who would come to see him regardless. Same of Joe Calzaghe, look how he got away with 10 years of WBO defences against crap opposition. Who's the bigger fool though? He may have upset the hardcore boxing fraternity but he still sold out arenas & made a pretty penny from the afore mentioned fighters. De La Hoya, of course, wants to make a lot of money but he also seems keen to impress the fans & thats shown through with the cards he's been putting on. Say what you want about him but I think, overall, he's good for boxing. Don King I'd say probably cares more about the fans than his fighters. He knows that fighters come & go but the fans are his vessel that will continue to deliver his green. So there you go, I cant give a definitive answer because I don't think there is one.
Good point. That's pretty much what I was trying to say. It is up to "THEM" to put together a show/product that we will be all too willing to buy. Like you say, they have to recognize what the fans will pay for.
i aint voting because fighters .like david haye fights for fans n so does hatton n fighters like thaxton n hopkins fight for money its a mixture of both
Fighting for money and for the fans go hand in hand IMO. Getting a approval from the fans means more will come to see you fight, which makes bigger events, and bigger events means more money.
