Let's forget about the KO predictions for a minute (even though I feel they are not overly feasible, regardless of what you may think of Jones' chin -- Hopkins made a career of fighting marquee names who were blown -up welters and JMWs), and focus on the "wide UD" predictions. Given that a guy named Enrique ****in' Ornelas actually gave a decent showing of himself and made Bernard show his age at some points in their fight, are we really thinking an ATG like Jones will give a poorer account of himself than Ornelas? Please don't misinterpret : I fully expect Hopkins to pull out the decision here, but feel it will be much more competitive than others are prophesying. Mind you, the minute Jones starts going to the ropes, I will be all : atsch
He will be good for about four rounds and then start to become lethargic. He will then revert to countering off the ropes in a boring dull affair he will probably lose via a wide UD.
I think it is important to understand the context of Hopkins/Ornales. Enrique's previous fight was the title eliminator with Rubio. He felt like he was on the wrong end of a poor decision (I agree.) Enrique is also a Golden Boy fighter who needed money. He was looking for a fight with any marque name. Hopkins wanted a stay busy fight, and made the match with Ornales. That fight was nothing more than a televised sparring session. I wouldn't put to much stock in it.
The Ornelas fight was about finetuning and putting oil in the machine for Bernard :yep We all know Ornelas can take a punch, unlike Roy, at this stage.
