On the magnificent seven card in 2010 ...

WOW that was the standout performance of the night.. he looked brilliant that night.. like he was gonna be a future star... That has got to be his best ever perfomance :deal Everyone was raving about him after that fight.

    What happened?!
The main reason for his downfall was taking a VOLUNTARY defence against Sergey Kovalev of all people!! it doesn't get any dumber that that

Anyhow Cleverly is still a very talented fighter :deal He's only lost to a huge punching pound for pound beast.. he only has one loss to a A level fighter you need to remember that. Before that he was mostly very impressive with his skills, speed, chin.

I think after the Kovalev fight he wanted out of that division ASAP

He could have stayed and perhaps beat Hopkins. Then Kovalev wants that belt?
Nah, I'll move up instead, nothing to see here...

He boxed smart that night, against kovalev he made the biggest mistake and tried to brawl with him.
I reckon he should've stayed at light heavy and got himself a new trainer, he's still young and growing, against Sergey he looked small. he has the beating of most of the other top fighters at light heavy and I think moving up will turn out to be a bad move.

Easily his best performance. I finally got what they were hyping that night. Since then? Not so much. But if he can perform like he did against Murat on Nov 22, Bellew won't be able to do much about it.

Kovalev is a beast, but Cleverly folded embarrassingly that fight. Look at Hopkins on the weekend as a comparison, a 49 year old man showing huge heart, which Cleverly clearly lacks.

It was a great performance from Nathan against Murat.
I agree with many other posters on here that Nathan could have beaten most of the other LHWs. Nathan seemed a bit nervous when he fought Kovalev (understandably) and not in the usual fast handed attacking style. I actually think he may have had a better chance with his usual fast pressing attacks, rather than the cover up and push out a jab style he tried that night. Sure he may well have been caught, but I think had he pushed Kovalev back, he may have taken a bit of sting out of the punches and done better. But who knows?

    Bit harsh.

Hopkins might have more savvy but not more heart. Least Clev went out on his sword...

There's no shame in wanting to fight, or losing to, the best.

He should beat Bellew cos he's a better boxer with a calmer head. But it's boxing and Tony certainly seems 'motivated'.

I like this fight cos it's a real clash of personalities. On the one hand you have an articulate, educated, rational chap. On the other..........

The main reason for his downfall was all his **** fights caught up to him and he was catching that much flack he took the Kovalev fight to prove people wrong. The man gave Shawn Hawk a title fight ffs his defences were a joke.

It is not harsh, just calling it as I saw it. Cleverly felt the power of Kovalev and folded completely, whilst in the 12th round of his fight Hopkins ate some huge punches and kept going.

I do think Cleverly has talent as a boxer, but to say that he went down on his sword in that fight is ridiculous.

He got dropped by a body shot. Happens all the time. Happened to Hatton against Shevchenko. Doesn't mean Hatton lacks heart.

Where was BHop's heart in the first Chad Dawson fight? No disrespect to the old chancer but..

Cleverly was carried like a tired baby to his stiool but the ref, he was gone, he had nothing left there, did you see him try to walk back to his corner when it was called off, I thought he was going to collapse watch it again. He's so dazed I thought he would fall out of the ring.

Difference is Hatton was shot to ****, and weight drained. Big difference. Not that I disagree with your statement, I just thought that was a poor example to use.

Are you serious mate? The ref carried him back to his corner the round BEFORE and he still came out for the next! And he was completely out of it when it was stopped. Are you saying Clev was faking being concussed?
