I don't respect him, but he is an ATG. His boxing is very unmanly.

I don't respect him, but, one way or another, he got the job done, so I think he should be considered an all time great.

Sounds like a nice thing to say until you realize he’s top 3 at 168 and arguably number one.

He should be an ATG and I fully respect him. But I don’t believe he’s in the top 25 ATG. He did very well at 168 and at 175 but he had a relatively incomplete career....missed out on some of his prime years due to promotional issues and retired early. He has some very good wins and some very good names on his ledger but he hasn’t beaten one ATG in his career and only one future hall of fame fighter in Kovalev.....maybe 2 if Froch makes it.

Don't respect him in the ring and outside it, i don't think he's an ATG fighter either.

He def had a good run at 168lbs. Bested all those Euro champs.

Chad Dawson was only a decent win. I know that Dawson begged for the fight and put up no resistance to fighting at 168lbs...but he was dead on his feet that night. Dawson had to rehydrate 17lbs up to 185.

My big problem with him is that he was comprehensively outboxed by Kovalev (especially in the first fight). Kovalev is certainly no slouch (with serious power) but he fights in straight lines, flat footed, predictable 1-2 puncher, and zero stamina. Yet Ward couldnt box with the man. I thought he clearly lost 8rds in the first fight.

Ward is obviously a very skilled and intelligent boxer. But all time greats dont get boxed up by Krusher.

sven ottke 36-0 was a stay at home fighter unwilling to travel
and got sympathtic refs and judges in his fights had a not pleasing on the eye style but was very effective ad sucessful at what he did

andre ward 32-0 was a stay at home fighter unwilling to travel
and got sympathtic refs and judges in his fights had a not pleasing on the eye style but was very effective ad sucessful at what he did

ward had a better resume than ottke but home advantage is huge and when ranking fighters at the end of there careers fighters who never fought in the lions den but played it safe at all times should be marked down.

Doubt too many people are going to be sitting around watching Andre Ward career set dvd's, but if you want to consider him an ATG that is up to you, beauty is in the eye of the beholder:ciao:

I had Ward beating Kovalev and thought he clearly won the second half on a round by round basis. He just was in a hole after getting dropped and rocked badly early in the fight. He didn’t leave much doubt in the rematch.

Unless your name is Floyd Mayweather, most all time greats have something far worse than that fight to point to.

He couldn't win his important bouts within the rules so he disqualifies himself from being an ATG.

Yeah he won the 2H because Kovalev had laughable stamina. Kovalev boxed him all over the ring in the first half of the fight and it wasnt even really competitive. Same for the rematch...except his steam ran out after 3rds this time.

Sorry, but if you can't box with Sergey Kovalev then it's very hard to be considered ATG.
