Yes and he beat everyone put in front of him and rematched the one fighter who almost beat him and crushed him .
Beat a lot of good fighters .
Was his style boring? Yes but so was a lot of other great boxers who people rave about but for some reason complain about Ward.
And he retired at the right time .Doesn't slur his words or comeback a million times.
Never hear a bad word about him outside of the ring .A true professional .Younger boxers should take note and study how Ward conducted his career inside and outside the ring .

He lost to Kovalev the first time and in the rematch he should have been disqualified for lowblows.

I'm drawing a blank when it comes to great boring boxers. Mayweather sucks too.

You must not have been listening. His lawsuits against his promoter and his petulant sit out of the sport in that time wasn't professional. And the way he treated other fighters by lowballing them was shameful too.

Tommy Loughran gets rave reviews and he was a safety first boxer .
Jimmy Young has a cult following and he wasn't mister excitement.
Mayweather sucks? Who ever beat him? Nobody .

This. If Ward would've also beat Stevenson and held the undisputed 175 title for a couple years than he'd deserve to be an ATG, but he didn't so while he's a great fighter he fall short of being an ATG.

He ran away from defending his titles against the new breed of contenders not once but twice.

Add the fact that ATG's don't drag cancer stricken men through dubious court cases, this question on whether his name deserves to be mentioned next to other true greats, is a damn right disgraceful one.

I think that when a boxer retires he should hand back his boxers licence If he decides to come back he must reapply. Would stop all these Floydlike " retirements"

Bika and Miranda should be there instead of Green. Who is the best ever at SMW and how much better is their resume really? Ward isn't necessarily the best ever at 168 but he has a case for it. He's certainly right up there.

I was on the fence w/ Green. Probably should have been added. Bika, not so much. He could give the top guys a tough fight, but he doesn't have what I would consider major wins.

Who the best ever is at SprMW is a good discussion. In regards to H2H being the best ever, have to go with RJJm in his short stay there. Accomplishment wise? Joe c and Sven had twenty defenses. Over ten more than what Ward has.

It may seem like I'm being hard or unfair to Ward. Certainly H2H, he'd be a threat to anyone who's ever fought at 168. And yes, one of the best every at 168.

He probably has one of the best resumes around. Unbeaten since he was like 12 or something. Came back from adversity a number of times in fights. Brilliant form distance and from the inside. Cant really find many faults in this guy. ATG.
