Pound for pound I think that Roy Jones and James Toney were better more accomplished fighters, but they didn't spend much time at super middleweight.

Well, let's look at their super-middleweight resumes-
Andre Ward- Froch, Kessler, Abraham, Dawson, Bika
Roy Jones- Toney and that's about it
James Toney- Barkley and that's about it
Nigel Benn- McClellan and that's about it
Chris Eubank- Watson and that's about it
Tommy Hearns- Ray Leonard and that's about it

Most of those guys you are talking about just moved through super middleweight and had most of their career defining fights at middleweight or light heavyweight. Super middleweight is just a small part of their record. While I'd agree that Ray Leonard, James Toney, or Gerald McClellan are better than any individual win on Ward's resume, one good opponent is not enough to cement your resume as the best fighter in the history of a division. What Ward's CV lacks in superlatives it makes up for in depth (compared to others in that division. If this were middleweight or light heavyweight the GOATs resumes would probably be four times as long and star studded).

Ward couldnt get a country mile within range of Kov's body in either fight until his stamina had fallen off a cliff. To Ward's credit, as soon as he saw the lazy Russian huffing and puffing he went hard after the body (and the balls).
