After watching Juanma the other night, I realised I respect more fighters who get to the top of the sport even though they go down in fights on a regular basis. I don't see having a strong chin as something that makes you a better fighter than someone else because proving you can take hard punch after hard punch shows a lack of defensive ability. Both Lopez and Gamboa have shown vulnerability in this area but it makes their fights more exciting and the fact neither of them have yet lost shows how good their boxing is. I use it to defend Haye, even though I don't think he really is glass chinned, against his haters because his record is based on his skills being better than anyone else he has faced. What do you guys think?
I wouldn't say there is any great evidence Lopez or Gamboa are weak chinned. Just because they've been down doesn't mean they were neccessarily badly hurt, I havn't seen any demonstratable evidence they've been really hurt in a fight.
This. The other night for instant, Concepcion had just been put on his ass, was reeling across the ring, and JML went looking for the finish and got caught with a counter left hook while not fully balanced and went down. He didn't look hurt, and in fact looked really pissed off with himself when the ref was giving him the count. I've seen this with Gamboa a couple of times as well, swinging wildly, looking for the killer blow and getting caught off-balance by a counter and going down. I haven't seen all their fights, and all the kd's they've suffered, so someone may have to tell me whether they have ever been properly hurt from a kd. I haven't seen it from the ones I've viewed anyway.
