Never been a fan but I will say this, in fights 2 & 3 with Fury he took an absolute battering but he kept coming & wouldn't quit. You've got to have a begrudging respect for that.
Wilder had an unique style . Not much skills - but everybody knew he WILL deliver his nuclear bomb in the ring and thats was everybody waited for . Opponents feared him before they entered the ring . For years this went thru the entire division . 47 pro fights , an incredible ko percentage , 10 title defenses , world champion between 2015-2020 . Yes its all gone now , but after what he gave to the fans and the sport the only question if we respect wilder or not is a silly and childish disrespect imho .
He's one of the few fighters I have no respect for. Avoided the competition for the vast majority of his career, talking a big game while holding the WBC belt hostage and preventing unification. Even snubbed a $100M payday against Joshua to avoid him and when he finally stepped up, cherrypicking a then out of shape Fury his career started to unreval. Then all the excuses came, one even more ridiculous as the other.
Yes. Because of the nuclear right. I don't respect Wilder's 10 title defenses. But I can blame the modern understanding of boxing for that scenario, not Wilder.
Tomato can crusher who publicly stated he wanted to "take a body". Callous dude - I enjoyed watching him get slept as much as he did
