He isnt that fast & mobile, & isnt especially hard to hit. He doesnt look very big at MW either. To beat him, I think you need good movement, a slick defence & superior speed, or an iron chin & overwhelming physicality. At 160 I'd favour Martinez over GGG, if Chavez Jr is as indestructable as he thinks he is then that fight could be a war. Not a popular opinion, but I think HNN might have the style to make it a tough night if his chin stands up. Up at 168 I reckon Ward would be too strong & Dirrell too quick & elusive. Froch might be able to drag him into the trenches but I cant see him outlanding GGG. Down at 154, Cotto & Lara might give him problems but I wouldnt bet on either being able to survive for 12.
300+ Amature Fights and 24 Pro Fights and he has never been on the Canvas so must have an incredible Chin,Proska hit him with a few Big Shots today and he never blinked so dont think he will be TKO'd in a hurry.!!!!
His jab looked by far the best I've seen, his work rate too, pointing these out because in the past I did criticize him for being too selective, amateurish (in style) and not exactly building up a fight plan in case of scoring, just going for the openings. Boy did he put his game to another level yesterday! With that said, the defensively alert, quick jabbing Winky-style would give him major problems. Like JMM, GGG is not exactly a pressure fighter, but a forward-coming technician who forces you to open up and create your own defensive holes, which he can time supremely. The Winky style however wouldn't fall for this and it's very hard to counter that kind of quick sharp jab, so I think it could outwork Golo's. Austin Trout would give GGG one helluva fight. Given his size and inside fighting skills, I'd definitely favor Ward too, 168 is a little too big for the rather natural 154-er Golovkin.
He is the eptimany of a fighter who does everything very well but no stand out greatness. Reminds me a lots of Tszyu. Will be a very tough man to beat.
He doesn't need to be very fast and mobile (like for example Ward) whe he has so much power in fists and precision. 12 rounds are enough time to knock out everyone opponent
I don't think he does well against the top 168 lbs fighters he has the power but Froch, Ward, Dirrel and Kessler would be to big for him. He isn't that hard to hit and this is why I would favour Martinez over him also, GOlovkin vs Lara would be an Interesting fight because of styles it could go either way.
he has defensive flaws and he comes straight in with no head movement,i seen him gassed a lil bit and breathing heavy out his mouth also, which probably means he will gas late in the fight.
He's slow, methodical, and easy to hit. He will have success with most fighters except for slick boxer/punchers with good chins. Martinez beats him at 160, Cotto has a chance to beat him at 154. Ward and Froch beat him at 168.
Sometimes it can appear as if he's not all that bothered about taking a punch or two so he can land his own. However he wont continually fall for the same punch over and over again, he soon corrects an error by landing himself. Proksa landed the odd big shot and GGG barely blinked but he soon punishes the opponent back. He boxes and conserves energy which is why he absorbs the odd blow, he didnt let Proksa build any kind of momentum at any point.
Golovkin's main weakness just pertains to his potential longevity. He can take a punch, but he still takes too many of them. He'll have a lot of miles on his odometer before his time.
Prior to last night, one of my concerns was that he was a little too enamoured with his power and would look for one shot. Even though he did this at times last night, he looked a little happier just letting his shots go. With his natural power, there's no need to load up. He's not the quickest but he cuts the ring off very well and his body-shots are sickening. Won't be easy for anyone to dance round him all night. Defensively, he's not untouchable but he's hardly a Gatti or Margarito. I thought he rolled with Proksa's hooks very well but was easier to catch straight down the middle. I liked the fact that, when in close, he always moved in small circles and didn't come straight out. He has some small flaws but can work around them very well. I'd love to see him fight Geale then Sergio to see if he really is as good as he seems.
His ability to adjust with his defensive flaws makes him a hard man to beat.Nice body work last nite as well.
Suspect defense and average handspeed other than that I'm impressed. I can't wait to see him in with the best at 160.
