I wouldn't say he is slow at all? I would actually say he is pretty fast-handed for a come-forward fighter. Methodical, well he picks his punches yes. But he can also go through the motions and let the shots flow when his opponent is in trouble. I wouldn't argue he is particularly hard to find however, though he's not exactly Margarito either. I think 168 is too far up for him, I agree. I think Cotto would be an excellent fight, I think he beats Martinez.
I think a fighter like Martinez who incoperates allot of movement into their style may be able to rack up points against Golovkin.
It was good to see this guy on HBO, I hadn't seen him on good quality, just streams. He's a very good fighter, I think he will be best served for now to stay at 160, because he can probably beat anybody there at this point. His shots are very crisp and he makes adjustments well to what the opponent is doing. I can't wait to see more of him, and I'm sure HBO is already licking their chops to get him back on the air again late this year. I would really like to see him fight the Chavez-Martinez winner next, either of those fights would be excellent.
He only weighed 166 on fight night. Andre Ward who was mentioned post fight, will come in over 180 pounds for sure. Ward might be too big for GGG. Would be interesting to see him in with Froch, who would be happy to take his best shots and throw with him
Seems a bit slow of foot, and his hand speed wasn't all that great, he also has a leaky defense...but he is a pretty good fighter and I liked watching him.
The same was true for Jermaine Taylor. He had NEVER been down as a amateur, and he didn't come close to going down until Pavlik. all of this is no indication of having or not having a chin. He could have a glass jaw, or he could have a average jaw that is cracked after a good sustained 11 round beating. Having an incredible chin is proven when you fight a guy with good to great power and doint get KO'd.
Dosen't have great foot work or head movement. He protects himself well with his arms and gloves. He took a nice amount of left hand leads vs. Proska and that would not be acceptable vs. Martinez. I say put him in with Jermain Taylor at 154 or 160 for his next fight. It can only get better with that win.
I don't want to see Jermain Taylor used as opponent to look good against to become a bigger name. He has been stopped in some of his recent top level fights, and if it is just going to keep happening I would rather he retired instead.
I think his weakness was shown against Ouma. He has defensive lapses against punches to the middle jabs, crosses and uppercuts. His defense against the wider shots are pretty good. That is all!
I'm not enjoying the way everyone's going bonkers over 3G because much as I like him and think he's a valuable addition to the top level,I think any thinking-type fighter with a sharp jab and good countering ability could slow him down and throw his game right off. He's too small for 168 and there are fighters who are very wrong for him up there. I think Martinez has almost the perfect tools to throw 3G right off his game, and Jnr would be too big. When they're out of the way,he should stay at 160 because he can dominate as long as he stays there and makes use of his advantages because he'll lose a lot of them at 168. I also worry about some of the comments about Proksa. He was dreadfully amateurish last night and I was under the impression that the only people in Britain who rated him were the ones who haven't been there very long and send a chunk of their wages behind the Iron Curtain. He's no more than average level EBU fighter who fought like and average level PBA fighter last night.3G will have had tougher tests in sparring than he had last night.
He reminds me of Tsyu too, and maybe a bit of a young Edwin Rosario. I think the biggest threats to him will be if he neglects his training ala Tsyu vs Philips or falls in love with power and neglects his other strengths ala Rosario. Until then I think he'd only really struggle with a mobile, clinching boxer with great punch variety.
He says he would fight Ward but that would be so ugly to watch, Ward would just smother him and clinch then work on the inside not allowing Golovkin to do anything Martinez's darting in and out would be likely to get a few points on the scorecards if it were to go the distance However Andre Dirrell as people say would beat him but with his constant bitching at whenever he gets hit hard and falling down mixed with the fact Golovkin has already beaten him in the Am's I dont see him being a problem. Carl Froch or Mikkel Kessler would have a shot at beating him by using pressure and patience (waiting for golovkin to come onto a shot with kessler whilst Froch would have to go Rambo on the inside and test his chin) That being said the only people I see beating GGG are Martinez, Ward, Kessler or Froch and even then GGG could hurt them at any given time. its been a while where youve seen a fighter where you have to look at the best of the higher division to have a chance of beating him, Roll on the Golovkin express
