Big fan of both fighters but I'm struggling to see the link , Joe threw punches he had no business throwing from ridiculous angles anyone who knows a tad about the sport knows this ,what makes me laugh are the haters who cry about him slapping lmfao he sure slapped the crap into all he fought and these guys are still crying about him a decade after he hung um up .

    not really stylewise.

Careerwise they are polar opposites, Nomas wins recognised titles as novice, Joe avoids them all his career, then wins them in his last fights and flees instantly in gibbering terror from defending them.

Nomas does not fear loss. Joe does like the plague.

They're European, white southpaws. Think that's where the similarities end

Calzaghe was more of a volume puncher with a higher work rate. Gifted technically but plagued with hand injury... Both are southpaw. Both had father trainers. Both are ATGs & both put ATG clinics on that people are still salty about! Obviously Loma is a greater talent but that's not surprising is it? He's one of the most special talent's of all time IMO..

Huge fan of both. Calzaghe had brilliant footwork too, used the ring well, controlled distance & could generate awkward angles also.. There are similarities i suppose, but Josh Warrington reminds me of Joe a bit too.. Heart of a lion, punches in bunches, crazy engine, keeps coming, makes unpredictable attacks! Calzaghe was a brilliant boxer who's psyche was more offensively minded & who's heart could over rule his head at times... Just a really good all round fighter in general.

    Enjoyed his career. Respect champ.

I didn't enjoy watching Calzaghe. Watching him face mostly stiffs, and get multiple British stoppages wasn't exciting at all. His bout with Kessler was the lowest rated HBO Primetime bout ever at the time.

Lets see, Nomas has a better resume than Joe Calzaghe already and hes still a novice. Nomas has a better overall resume than end-of-career joe when Nomas was still an amateur, with his cabinet full of gold.

Just Nomas one loss in his 2nd fight is better than Joes whole wbo stretch pre-kessler.

Nomas is god of war. Joe runs in fear from any war.

similarities, lol, The thread should be "how many differences can u list ".

This. Their styles are definitely different but both are VERY smart fighters. And both embarrassed the **** out of the ‘boogeymen’ in their division.

Yea unification fights were a hard ppv sell back in those days as people ( mostly casuals ) didn't quiet get the concept of one weight , one champ what with the titles in every division being so fragmented , it was a fight before its time I guess .

Calzaghe was also a frustrating fighter in that he didn't really want to challenge himself. He moved up to fight old men, and not the young lion.

Well he wanted to fight Hopkins in 2002 but Hopkins skipped the division so as not to fight him , do you think he should have chased Bernard up to L/,Heavy before unifying the 168lbs division ? Personally I don't as I'm a fight fan first and foremost, I'm happy both he and Kessler had the stones to attempt unification ..each to their own I guess .

That's laughable. Hopkins jumped to 175 to face the man that beat the man. Tarver was a more prestigious scalp than Calzaghe was, and it was somewhat personal for Hopkins, as Tarver had KO'd Jones Jr, taking the luster off of his chance at revenge. Hops and Calzaghe couldn't come to terms financially when they tried to make the fight the first time.

No, I have no issue with Calzaghe unifying, even though everyone here knows damn well, that if Jones Jr, or a top level guy was still at 168, that Calzaghe would have ducked unification.
