Hunched over his front leg, but still stately, balanced, picture perfect, with a big dot of snap, hardly telegraphed at all. I might be cerifiably insane, but I almost get choked up seeing stuff like this sometimes. There's so much determination, so much hard work in being able to throw it like that, and then so much emotion in doing it when your body is eroding, you can almost taste the pride swelling up in Tommy saying 'I can take this guy. I still have it.' Anyway, /rant. I'm just a boxing enthousiast. (read: nut) Edit: I remembered another good one -- Erik Morales, pushed towards the ropes by Barrera in their first fight -- tired, weary -- he like stops, and slumps for just a moment, storing energy, then unleashes a barrage that's so typical of his pride and warrior spirit. I'd go find the clip, but I think everyone here knows the scene by memory.
Oh I totally agree. The bit where Morales is out on his feet and comes back is AWESOME! Lennoz's uppercut against Vitali whilst he's being pushed back and thoroughly beaten is beautiful. Arguello's straight right against Mancini is a thing of beauty. Carbajal-Gonzalez 1 is a fight that nearly makes me cry; it's just wonderful throughout! Saad is another fighter that makes me nearly well up with his heart and determined rallies. I think as a huge boxing fan this happens quite often to be honest! Good thread :good
When liston was bludgeoning Patterson (i think its the first time round), and he is doubled over, one of the left hooks i thought at first landed to the rib cage, i looked again and i think it was a head shot. Who was the guy who Jose Napoles cold-cocked while he was turned around but it landed precisely on the point of the chin? Might have been Jean Josselin. my favourite is of a fight i bang on about quite a bit, Roberto Duran slaying Lou Bizzarro where he stood. And then there's always Tommy Morrison having the best luck ever to be alive against Ray Mercer..............
Thomas Hearns has a lot of said punches (that you feel as a viewer)! He just had great follow-through form, and incredible "snap". He really did strike like a cobra--one of the more fitting nicknames in boxing.
I always liked Hearns' original nickname, "the Hitman." Back on topic, the right hand that Hearns hit Duran with still hurts.
