I think he's elite. Just a step too far. Spence is elite too but much bigger and stronger

Or if you lose every second of a fight and also lose rounds to Broner, Lipinets etc. That guy is not and never will be elite, nothing to do with being undefeated or not.

If Khan and Brook can outbox Canelo and GGG at times before getting stopped... why can’t Mikey win a second against Spence? Is Spence that much better than Canelo and GGG? Are Khan and Brook that much better than Mikey? Let’s not make excuses for a clear C grade fighter, let’s not pretend that Mikey is elite in any division.

Exactly. Boxing fans are so pathetic. This kid took the biggest jump and risk in boxing, came to win, never once cut and ran like a *****, and took his lumps like a champ against a p4p elite boxer and H2H monster. What do the majority of "boxing fans" do? Deuce all over him. Pathetic.

Mikey, nothing but respect brother. I'll always be your fan win/lose/draw.

What’s wrong with losing rounds to broner & lipinets?
He won those fights by wide margins.
I suppose we need to define elite:
the richest, most powerful, best-educated, or best-trained group in a society:

The last 2 defines the Garcia boxing pedigree to a T. “Best educated / Best trained”

A case can be made for “the richest” as he is one of the few multi-million dollar boxers in this sport . Hell you could make a case for Broner being part of boxing’s elite too by that definition.

So yeah Mikey Garcia can & should be considered part of boxing’s elite based on the definition of the word.

Mikey was very, very good at 126-130lbs. The three year layoff ended that.

He could no longer make weight and had to move to 135lbs. His days of knocking on the door of the "elite club" were absolutely over.

There's a reason he took this fight. A paycheck, undeserved "street cred", and a way out of the Lomachenko fight.

You guys saw it with your own eyes. He doesn't lift even three rounds off of Loma.

I could see this being a possibility... I guess time will tell to see what he does from here.

Exactly, he deserves props for not getting stopped by a bigger guy who also happens to be a p4p top 10 biggest punchers in boxing, and who was also faster and longer than Mikey -- and Mikey hung in there, tried his hardest every second, took it on the chin all night and not just stayed upright but returned fire everytime, and took a crazy jump in weight and risk without even a fight or two to acclimate.

For everyone who never boxed and from the sounds of it never has even got into a fist fight -- omething should be said for all Mikey risked, all he took, and for having the balls to leave himself open to shots so he could try and land his own........ Against a significantly bigger, faster, and harder puncher. I'm boiling red mad right now that so few people are not only showing him zero respect, but completely disrespecting him in every way imaginable. He may be my favorite fighter(Spence is my 2nd favorite) but I'm no fan boy and I'm REAL AF. Man, a lot of foolish slack jawed clowns on here who need to get their nuts DAWG checked, hard.

He's very very good, at the right weight. Can't say elite but he's knocking on the door. He should stay at LW, not even JWW. Hubris got the best of him and he was properly spanked in this case.

We’ll have to wait and see how Mikey looks against his next one or two B+ opponents before we can say if he’s still elite. The Spence fight never should’ve happened and / or never should’ve been as hyped as it was. Props to Mikey for selling it and creating a buzz where there never should’ve been a buzz. Boxing fans love David and Goliath type stories and promoters, bookies and cable companies love to let fans love it. Throw in a couple of “expert” opinions like Leonard and Tyson calling the upset and you get the boxing equivalent of PT Barnum’s “The Great Egress”

Because ggg and canelo are straight forward fighters while Spence who likes to come forward was using his height and reach advantage sticking the jab and land combination? Spence wasn't looking for a knockout early like ggg and canelo does which is totally different.

Crazy stuff no doubt. The guy wants to test himself and dare to be great but people want to kill him for it and tear him down. Mikey is everything right with boxing we need more mikey garcias in the sport today.
