Now this is a good thread!:good Keep talking Scrap, I'm learning a lot and I also appreciate others discussing their difficulties so that not only you but others can benefit. These are things that are not discussed in terms of injuries and reaction, etc. but so relevant. I hope this thread continues to evolve.:D

Of course, by page 6 we will have 3 or so others who have picked a totally unrelated internet fight.

Thanks Scrap :good. Do you think you can stretch your muscles too much? I've been taught that there is an optimal length for the sarcomere so it can produce the most powerful contraction so if stretched too much the strength of the contraction is compromised, same as if not stretched enough. Thoughts?

Lefty, anything can be over done, not just stretching. Think ive mentioned muscle conciousness, thats what youre looking for awareness. Keeping both sides in the same working order,as in length of the bundles ability. Its a balancing act both sides left and right having the optimum ability to fire and engage. Interestingly been working with M/S sufferers with good results, Im still shuffling around with ideas as regards the affect this machine i have in regards to mysolin still playing, but seriously :D.

I’m based over in Huddersfield Scrap.

Just back from the hospital and the good news (I think) is that it’s a partial rupture of the ACL so no surgery needed, just about 6 weeks of rehab to get me back on track. I think part of that is ultimately going to involve me getting some confidence back in the knee. All good and positive stuff.

huddersfield isnt far from me rocket, itll probably take you a 50minute drive or so if there isnt much traffic, well worth it though, your body will thank you.

Oh yes and scrap did you ask about headaches because you think most of the compensating due to the fault in walking gait will be going on around the 2nd n 3rd lumbar? if so is this common in most problems with walking gait? is it circumstantial depending on where the source of the problem started? as to where the most of the compensating will be going on? say if the problem was lower down the compensation could be more evenly spread throughout the skeletal structure?

Im asking because this seems quite damaging in terms of the effect it could have on overall bio-mechanics and optimum performance from the body (if the compensation is made evenly throughout that is), it seems like the best way the body could deal with the problem is by isolating the compensation to 1 area, is that it? is it a case of the body opts to compensate in a more isolated manner to maintain optimum performance? i dont know but i know its interesting. sorry if my questions are **** to understand lol, well have to talk more about this on tuesday howard. very interested to find out what the body tends to do with problems like this.

Scrap, that’s an amazingly kind offer and one I may just take you up on. I’m going to see how the first session goes at the hospital as it’s just up the road and I want to see if they are any good! After this I will weigh up my best options.

I’m actually feeling quite excited about discovering where some of the problems have come from and even more-so sorting them out.

What would I owe you for your time? You can always DM with costs if you prefer to keep it private.

Thanks to everyone on this thread, I’ve been a long time lurker and it’s good to get involved, especially on something about injury prevention and repair which should definitely play an important part in everyones’ training – if only I was alerted to this when I was younger!

Simply, the body works all or nothing, its a Team game everything is there for a reason. Something not working as it should, inhibits everything else as regard motion and thought, pscyhcodinamics of movement. Thats where the compansation mode starts as a rule. my Hobby as you know, is watching people walk. You can pick up most anything thats wrong biomechanicely by walking movement and there posture. What directs balance are the toes and inner ear which direct the Coxxys radar if you like. Anything out of line or not working as it should causes everything else not to work to its optimum. Then the problems start. then you lose it, the reason bad maintainance.

Keeping left and right balanced is bloody hard. I was at the physio a couple of months back because I had a problem with hip flexibility, he put me through some exercises and it turns out my power is asymetric both left to right and back to front. Which I put down to two things:

    1. I'm right handed and left footed
    2. I've always kicked with my left foot but pushed off with my right.

I'd always neglected trying to work both sides equally before, but I have to make a point of it now.
